Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Arenas have operated in the UK for 35+ years. The operators have not spent a bean on grass roots venues.

Oak View and City invest 300m on their first venture and this clown approaches them to start paying a levy for grass roots venues. Genius !

That seems completely legit. Maybe they should charge Stadiums a fee to fund Arena shows - you know….Arena bands are the stadium bands of the future.

There are huge issues in the live music industry - tbe Live Nation Ticketmaster tie up / surge pricing / Venues stealing percentages from artists - but asking new Arena’s that have not started trading to fund small venues is a non starter.
Unless I misread it The Coop Live are putting a million (a year?) into grassroots venues, he wants them to up it to £2.5mill.

It's not just Oak View and City that he's targeting, it's every operator currently building a new arena in the UK. The reason the Co-Op has been singled out is that they're the only operator who isn't engaging with the idea.

And yes, there have been arenas operating in the UK for 35+ years, but the disparity between the profits made at arena level and the precarity of grassroots and club-size venues has never been remotely as great. Particularly post-lockdown.

Put it this way: small venues are feeder clubs. They do all the development of new talent, and a very select few outgrow them. Should they not be compensated for that? I don't know if it's detailed in the accounts, and don't have them to hand, but City must effectively make £4-5m in solidarity payments to EFL clubs per year, do you object to that as well?

Here's the moment the final acoustic cassette was dropped into place, signed by all of our amazing construction workers, partners and friends. Look how far we have come!

Slightly off topic, but in-keeping with new arenas.

TBH, It's hardly a stunner.

The proposed 12,500 capacity Sage arena in Newcastle has just been approved.

Updated plans for the 12,500-capacity Sage Arena and International Conference Centre, along with a park, have been rubber-stamped – although the timeline for delivery has been pushed back.

Looks like a mid sized shopping centre

We wont see the beauty of the Co-op Live until its finished and the led matrix display is in operation

It would be good if the hotel went with the bigger fins, looks more striking than the little fins they have gone with NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY - SAILING CENTER. The bigger fins stand out more and make the building look amazing instead of looking like a Travelodge. Having the bigger fins would also tie in with the badge with sails on it @jrb
