Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I said straight away that when we 1st moved into the stadium that the capacity of 48,000 was no where big enough. This was because for us to be successful we needed a stadium with a capacity of 60,000+. This would have been the time to make all around the ground a 3 tier stadium, while we were still be ready to move in. So look some 16/17yrs later I was proved right. How to make the capacity bigger I don't know, yes we can build by taking the third tier back on the North Stand to make the capacity 60,000+, but that would leave the ground looking a bit odd especially in the corners.

Is it possible to make a small 4th tier all round the ground say holding around 20,000 I just don't know. As for building a brand new stadium I don't see where that can be built on the present sight. Maybe that is possible but won't that make the purse strings just that little bit tight until the ground is built. Then we will have to decide at what capacity we should have the ground is it say 60,000, or do we go for one around 70,000+ mark.

I never understood why they built it with a capacity of 48 thousand , at the time you could hold European Cup/Champions League final in a 50 thousand stadiums , so why not just put the extra 2 thousand at the time . As for now, yes build it to 70/80 thousand , so what if we have some empty seats at some games. It doesn't bother Barcelona or Real Madrid !

Anyone good enough at photoshop to merge the 2nd and 3rd tiers?

The MMU Sports Campus and Rugby League Performance Centre will both be on the west side of the Campus just beyond the North Stand. With regard to those developments, the last we heard was that they were negotiating with the property holders to buy up the properties on the Edwin Road industrial estate and putting together detailed plans. These two projects are due for completion in the summer of 2021.

I noted that, originally, the official site of the RL World Cup, an event due to be held in autumn 2021, had suggested the Etihad as a likely venue, proclaiming the capacity as 60,000. But a while back, when the venues were selected, our ground didn't feature. Instead, Old Trafford is in there.

So could we perhaps be looking at applying for planning permission sometime in the autumn of 2020, beginning preparatory works in the spring of 2021 as the MMU and RL developments near completion? Then might the main phase of construction begin in the summer of 2021 with completion scheduled for 2022, City Square having already been relocated or reconfigured beforehand in parallel with the MMU and RL works?

I've no idea about the practical issues that might impact on a project like this, however. If the above is likely to be bollocks, could someone who knows what they're talking about please highlight it as such?
I’m into rugby league, and do remember reading a little while back that they wanted to use the Etihad for the World Cup but then it wasn’t selected.

Would fit in with the whole timeline for it to be the case of what you said.

Apart from inside the stadium, it’s going to be really interesting and exciting to see what City and their Architects do with the parcel of land outside the the North Stand, which will be vacated by City Square, and possibly the Souvenir Store?(maybe a bit too far back?)

That’s a large parcel of land compared to the back of the South Stand, which is small, tight, and constrained by Alan Turing Way. So there is plenty of scope to incorporate the North Stand expansion, a new City Square, and a new Souvenir store together, within that parcel of land behind the current North Stand.

If we do get safe standing, anyone know how this would affect capacity?

It will increase it, as safe standing seats are closer together.

Hence the justification of cheaper tickets. Less seating Space, and greater capacity. Unless City stick with the same seats and just install rails.
