Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Is it City’s land? Are we asking too much money from them to build on it?
Economies of scale for MMU. They might as well be in Crewe given the travel time from the Etihad to Oxford Rd. That means any development has to be self-contained so I assume this is a more expensive option, and HE funding is now uncertain. Another factor is that the Oxford Rd corridor is now a far more attractive proposition than it was two years ago.

Think we send them there only to see one specific surgeon (or his understudy, if I remember correctly). Regardless of our facilites I don't think that'd change under Pep.
For Pep specifically yes, but as I said this deal is about so much more than football. A medical centre of excellence will not only benefit city in terms of player rehab, transfer medicals etc, it will also bring in cash from other sporting institutions seeking those services.

There's nothing to say the Barcelona surgeon couldn't be brought in to lecture & share his expertise & experience. It all adds to the aura of a medical centre of excellence.

I see the vision, it's just a pity MMU couldn't.

A huge new Leisure, Conference, Hotel, Arena, etc, district should be built around around the Etihad stadium. It would be on the doorstep of the city centre, and would complement the city Centre perfectly, in my opinion.

I think this is the core of the right direction, a "district" of several facilities with WOW! design rather than one big showpiece facility.

10,000 seat multiple use arena.
Mini NEC.
Permanent attraction eg art gallery.
Range of hotels run by established chain(s).
Canalside leisure park with centrepiece marina.
Adrenaline sports park.

It’s about ten to 15 minutes on the Metrolink.

Also, plenty of clinical training is done via video link and simulators these days.

Have you tried getting from oxford road to the Etihad? It’s an absolute pain in the arse. Consider most of mmus building are on oxford road aswell. It’s a lot easier and more convenient for students as it is now

If we are talking about university it’s not done by video link... it’s done mainly in lecture halls.

Lots of Universities have simulator equipment and lots of medical training is done by video link. Many Universities also have teaching facilities in different towns, as well. In addition, Lecture halls aren’t a great way to learn and retain learning.

The travel wouldn’t have been ideal but we are not talking about a match day. I’m guessing that wider issues about MMU’s funding has affected their involvement.
