Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

Lower league team players might if we have the best and charge less.
Perhaps, but ACL for example only takes a couple of hours to do so need a few of them to keep surgical team going with adequate case numbers. A guy who does high end knee surgery won’t be the same guy that does broken bones or ankles.
Also lower league teams will have health insurance cover, so cost won’t matter.
The idea sounds good but centralising this kind of care round a football club is not viable.

Personally I think the area requires another reason for people to visit, little mini universal studios for me, all indoor and simulation type, not that I like this sort of entertainment

Not sure a clinical medical facility would provide the financial benefits the club would want. Other clubs aren’t going to send their ACL injuries to a City affiliated surgeon.
Also clubs will have their chosen local orthopaedic surgeons specially for knees, hips and ankle injuries.

Already exists open next to the college on corner of the CFA

The Rugby League headquarters are at Sports City and there is a squash centre. They wouldn’t have a problem with CFG backed knee specialists if they provided the best care. Maybe knee surgery wouldn’t have been realistic but they could have significantly increased diagnostic and rehab capability. Going to Barca every time there is a knee injury isn’t great.

But they only go to Barca because of pep do they not as he trusts them

Didnt say it was his mate, I know he’s a Spanish orthopod, and understand why pep would have faith in him. Makes sense. But There are plenty of similar guys in the uk affiliated to prem clubs who trust them with their players.

I reckon the specialists football teams trust are few and far between as I think you mentioned in an earlier post. For many years all the top sports people who ruptured ACLs seemed to go to Dr Richard Steadman in Colaroado. No doubt there are more specialist surgeons who carry out the procedures on top sports people but there wont be many. I am no expert on this. Like you said the rehab is as important as the surgery, if not more so.

If you value your player, you'll choose the best. The whole point of this facility will be for it to become a centre of research & excellence.

When I badly damaged my knee playing football in 1988, my Consultant was a Dr Hurst. It was during a conversation he revealed he was also the main surgeon used by both City & ManUre. I assume both clubs thought him the best available, & again I assume neither had an issue with him being consultant to the other.

If I was badly injured, & a Dr returned my bitter enemy to full fitness, why wouldn't I choose him to repair me? Unless you're suggesting a 'City affiliated surgeon' would nobble an opponent player for City's gain. If not, I can't quite see the point you're making mate.

Also, I doubt City will be looking on this facility to significantly add to our balance sheet. The facility is what it is.... A place of medical education, learning, research & excellence, right on our doorstep, which adds to the aura of Sportcity.
