The entrance I am talking about I think is one on just about 2 minutes into that video

Another interesting video thanks. The entrance I am talking about is shown at about 2 minutes into that video. Whether it's still there I don't know but it was round about where the the bridge crosses the road with platforms 14 and 24 above. just
before you turn left into Travis Street. As I said next time I catch the tram to the Etihad I'll see if it's still there because it may have been pulled down along with the whole wall from London Road to Travis Street to make way for the new taxi rank and entrance to the Metrolink platform. Hope my memory
is not playing tricks.

Yes, the entrance is still there but locked up and inaccessible.

I walk past it every home game. I come down in the lift from platform 13/14 these days.

I kissed my now wife for the first time on platform 14 back in 1993 waiting for her to get the train back to Bolton.

There will always be a white girder as a reminder of the day she had nowhere else to run, as her back was up against it thanks to the overcrowded platform.

To be 19 again...

Great story that Tolmie.

Me and Mrs Prague still kiss when we walk past gate B1 at Prague airport for that reason :)

Thanks, I forgot about the lift I walk all the way around now when I arrive at Piccadilly station, although not arriving at 13 or 14. I wonder if the stairs are still there that used to go up from the ticket office at the entrance not that they would be any use if it's bricked up

Not sure about the stairs, and I come in on a different platform from Sandbach, end carriage of the train, and walk back to 13/14 and use the lift, it's quicker. Even better when I'm rushing for a train home.

Can you walk to Wembley from London Euston?

Manchester City centre is defined by the inner ring road (mancunian way, Great Ancoats St, Trninity Way) and it's about a 2km across, and within that zone it has two major main line stations.

I'd say the problems City fans and Mancunians have are not really local but how the local interfaces with the national i.e. getting into and out of Manchester without using the car. The national rail network needs massive upgrades.

I am a big fan of the pedestrianisation schemes in Manchester. I like the Oxford Rd corridor. I hope schemes like that are extended to other arterial routes in and around Manchester, however it needs to be accompanied by schemes which can bring people into and out of the City because they work against cars. Trains need massive upgrades both nationally and locally.

Part of the reason City struggle with midweek games is because long distance seasonticket holders can not travel to City and back home because we don't have a national transport structure that is ft for purpose. We have profiteering train companies who charge an arm and a leg to travel to London.
Sorry I do like and agree with your post but I just don't see the similarities between Wembley and the Etihad? The transport differences are massive.

As i said above - that entrance (padlocked!) Is still there!

Mayfield might have made a good two level hub for the tramway system. Running to the south from the top on the railway and East West from street level. Could have run a street level circle back to Mayfield.
