Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I would actually hope we decide to build an entirely new stadium in the next decade on where the gas holder and car parks are - it is huge and then the footprint for the Etihad can be used for more parking, transport and leisure buildings?

It seems stupid to spend another £100m on an increase to a stadium which in ten years time will look even more dated in comparison to some of the new structures?
Totally agree, far better than keep trying to add on to the present stadium.

Build the most iconic stadium in the world, instantly recognisable as the home of MCFC, massive capacity, massive floodlights etc.

In all seriousness , something we have to do, the cost of a stadium refurb would be enormous and if we add to capacity, it could result in partial closure of the stadium, not something we want.

New build, stunning and iconic design.

Sounds great but only if it's paid for without impacting on the team which I guess would mean Abu Dhabi paying for it. Not sure they plan to.

Commencement keeps it alive
Aye, you are probably right, even if it sounds dodgy to me. Always thought we had two applications though, so never started the north stand. Could've been a dodgy MEN article I read reporting it had 'lapsed'.

Edit: I was curious to see how a stalled development could be permitted to remain unfinished (and therefore pending) in perpetuity and I see that councils do have the ability to issue completion notices on stalled developments. That's the bit I was not clear on.

I seem to remember that there were reports that the club wanted to build a state of the art stadium on the academy site but there were too many ‘political’ issues with it.

Although we pay rent to Manchester council the stadium is owned by Sport England and they weren’t happy that something built so recently would be demolished. Also all monies would have gone to Sport England and the council would have lost out on the annual few million in rent.

It currently is a mid range, OKish stadium but unless big money is spent on it then it will fall even further behind others that have been built recently and the ones in the pipeline.

Correct only I thought they were hoping to build it on the same side of A-U-L New Road?

I'd put us as a bit better than mid range as it stands though.

I once had blood taken at the hospital, and the young (and very pretty) nurse did an excellent job, as I'm difficult to get blood out of ( I blame working for the Revenue for 35 years).
She had an Eastern European accent, and I asked where she was from. She replied Romania. I asked her if she was from Transylvania, and she said "how did you know?" I pointed to my arm, and the penny dropped.
She burst out laughing!
My dentist surname is Tepes. I asked did he know that was Vlad The impaler’s surname. He told me his middle name was Vlad!
