Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

It was valued in the deal at £27 million, which represented its valuation in our accounts at the time. Some argued back then that the figure was excessive to a significant degree.

The Council wanted to cut the capacity to 20,000 or so and lease it to a sports team. Sale RU and Stockport County (seriously) put in bids and Sale were chosen. Unfortunately, their middle class support base didn't fancy a weekly trek from Cheshire to Moss Side so they pulled out. It was sold for housing instead and an FoIA request subsequently revealed it pulled in around £14 million.

That said, even if we take the value of Maine Road as just over half of that originally ascribed to it, the Council has received well over £80 million from City for the stadium as at summer 2024. I've given chapter and verse on this before, so use the search function if you want the proper figures.
The Maine Road and City of Manchester Stadium deals were superb deals for all parties.

Maine road transformed into a superb housing area and the Etihad and surrounding area becoming a boom part of Manchester, the transformation around there is simply unbelievable and getting better by the day.

Ignore the Council House jibe at the start of the article. Gary James is mentioned in the article.

Article, 2010.

Labour MP Graham Stringer, who was leader of Manchester City Council at the time, is quoted as saying: “Discussions with United were serious and went to a high level – the highest level.

and there was the offer of a ground share with Utd at the new stadium at the time.

How the fuck did anybody of sane mind think that would ever work ?

The thought of their fucking imbeciles infesting the stadium and surrounding areas is horrific.

Far better that the cunts remain in Trafford , although anywhere else in the world but Manchester would be the ideal location.

was manchester council

was manchester council

Was it the same council who thought FC Scum deserved a ground to watch the pretend rags , when their mardarse pretend supporters spit this dummies out because apparently they were " protesting " about the Glazers owning the rags ?

Manchester Council members who supported that utter fraud shite of a reason to give money to that cause should be charged for aiding and abetting fraud on a massive scale.

And the same council that will be part funding the new "Wembley of the north" despite what they say publicly.

Scruffy Jim and The Trailer Trash brothers won't be funding anything, yet I get the feeling the deal to build is already done and dusted, too much noise for it not to be.

Whilst you may be right, it should be the next can of worms to be opened re state funding/FFP/PSR?
Obviously, nothing will be said. Maybe it will be given to them, like the Olympic stadium was to our friends in East London.
