Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I have a feeling that 10, 20 years from now we will hear that MCC's planning dept was found to be in the back pockets of developers. Makes you wonder if the lack of planning approvals for pubs in the area is to placate the Developers and keep the brown envelopes coming *

*Legally, this is a viewpoint, not a statement of fact.
LOL no sh1t

Has it ever been any different? Not only in Manchester but the whole country, corruption comes in many forms.

I think it's more likely that MCC are keeping City sweet by not allowing a massive Spoons near the Etihad. There's only one company's profits who would suffer because of such a development. I thought such development applications were a matter of public record and any reasons for denial should be available on MCC Planning applications public portal. @jrb is usually all over this kind of stuff.

This has been on the cards for a long time, the council wanted to establish a all sports centre of excellence at the campus unfortunately the plans took a big hit when Manchester Metro University pulled out

True mate. That said, MMU’s change of heart probably leaves more opportunities open for other developments. World class sports medicine etc isn’t essential to the development of the Etihad Campus, although it would have been a helpful addition.

MMU basically operates as a rapacious and profit-obsessed property developer nowadays, with education seemingly a secondary consideration and mainly to maintain its charitable status

Surely nobody is surprised that planning is not being approved for new boozers anywhere near the stadium.

Not a chance anything gets approved anywhere in that area without the nod from CFG / Manchester Life. They certainly won’t want anything built that will affect the new Arena, which I would imagine is anything at all in the catchment area.

If they don’t control it you get ridiculous situations like Utd had with Hotel Football built literally on their doorstep.

On Thursday the govt will announce rail plans for the North. Worth keeping an eye on because of potential impact about travel in the North West. MEN has an article on this today.
