Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

The ownership of the AO Arena have really dropped a bollock with the lack of investment and it’s now far too late to fight back.

Any investment in the AO by their different owners over the last 30 years would have probably led to different decisions being made over any new arena, but they tried to do it on the cheap and left the door open.

Any exciting new plans they have will revolve around boxing and dancing on ice.

The extra facilities and superior offering at the new arena will make it impossible for the AO to compete.
Boxing on ice? Sounds interesting. They could have a scoring area like in curling and the boxer tries to punch their opponent into it.

Where is the AO/MEN arena up to with the improvements they said they'd do? (I remember a rooftop garden of sorts amongst other things, which presumably haven't been built and possibly won't be, or have I missed that?)

The AO arena is putting up a fight - they have some big plans this year.
I am sure Manchester can support 2 fantastic venues .
It definitely can. We already have concerts on at the Etihad with 60,000, or Old Trafford Cricket Ground with 50,000, or Heaton Park with 50,000 crowds at the same time we have events on at the AO.

As well as Castlefield Bowl (8,500), Mayfeild Depot (7,500), Victoria Warehouse (3,500), and the Apollo (3,500), as well as many other small venues also adding up to big figures when reckoned up together.

On one Saturday evening in 2015, we had a 73,512 at the Super League Grand Final at Old Trafford, 50,778 at a Rugby Union World Cup game at the Etihad, and a gig on at the AO with around 18,000 there.

We can have hundreds of thousands of spectators watching something at once in this city.

With a bit of vision and investment, the AO can still play a part in the city.

So are they expanding the north stand?

Hopefully the club have big plans for the stadium and surrounding area because Leicester have shown plans for their development and it looks amazing!!! We need to continue to improve our stadium to be one of the worlds best! Even the bloody dippers are expanding again so we need to see some significant investment in the etihad and areas around the stadium.

Going to do a picture update this weekend.

Here’s the link to the ‘live webcam’ if anyone wants to keep an eye on the arena being built? Scroll down to the bottom of the page.

I’ve got to say, I do like the design of the building. I know it’s just a big box but I think it works.

If they get the transport infrastructure right and there’s enough facilities (catering etc) to maintain the crowds when there’s both a match and an arena event on, it could be great.

Not that I have an awful lot of confidence, I’ll be honest.
