Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

I suspect that Ratcliffe's part acquisition of United was driven, by a desire to establish a lasting legacy in his home region, through the creation of a 'Wembley of the North'.
I think that's a very generous assessment. If he was funding it himself I would be more sympathetic
He's not lived in Manchester since junior school and shown no inclination til now.
More to do with generating money and having a more valuable asset when time comes to sell
As an example if we bought a corner shop and the government paid to turn it into Harrods we would be happy with the proceeds when we came to sell, yes..

Another update on the (exciting) Holt Town proposal.

Holt Town’s redevelopment is a cornerstone of Manchester’s vision for sustainable and inclusive growth. The initiative focuses on creating a vibrant mix of residential, commercial, and recreational spaces to serve diverse demographics, from young professionals to retirees.

The major regeneration project includes 4,500 new homes, expanded green spaces, retail opportunities, and versatile workspaces. The plans prioritise sustainable building practices, energy efficiency, and green infrastructure, showcasing the city’s commitment to addressing climate change. By integrating these elements, Holt Town is poised to become a model for futureproofed urban spaces that balance economic prosperity with environmental and social responsibility.

There's a big development due in the empty space on Great Ancoats St where the Great Ancoats Retail Park used to be. 7,000 civil service jobs are supposed to be created in a new digital civil service campus. This is not new but it could be a very significant change to Manchester and would mean that the centre moves East towards MCFC possibly improving amenities and infrastructure in this area.

^^ for decades now, whenever I’ve walked the Canal to<>from the game, I’ve often thought that the areas I’ve highlighted in pink here would be ideal for some decent waterside pubs with decent beer gardens:

Just seems like wasteland and a wasted opportunity at the moment.

It has just been approved by MCC.

The Government Property Agency’s application for 900,000 sq ft of offices across two blocks at the former Central Retail Park in Ancoats has been greenlit, along with BTR homes in Burnage and the Moxy hotel’s extension in Spinningfields.

The GPA project reflects a £310m redevelopment of part of the 10.5-acre former Central Retail Park into a hub for 7,000 civil servants. Manchester City Council itself put forward plans for the development of the remaining segment of the site as a public park, designed by Planit.

It's coming. Probably over the next 10-15 years.

This is brilliant because it reinforces Manchester the largest UK Tech and Digital centre outside of London. Not that it was in any doubt of course.
