Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

You used to be able to get from south stand (L2) all around the ground to the east (the long way, not thru the away fans), but they stopped that years back from memory. When they extended the south stand i think. Unless theres a fire escape i dont think you can get from SS L2 to L1 easily

No chance for us lot in the cheap seats in SSL3 then

They don’t even show the game on the TV’s on concourse

I bet West Ham wish they could convert their ground properly and get rid of the running track and temporary stands. The people in charge of building what was then the City of Manchester stadium did a very good job of building something that wasn’t going to turn into a white elephant like so many Olympic Venues.
Very true and a great legacy model
City made the move conditional on the stadium being designed for football with no lasting athletics facilities The design is quite brilliant and makes use of the local topography being able to have the pitch level 7m below the ground area but above the water table this facilitated the temporary use as an athletics stadium with of course the temporary north stand to allow the length required for field sports
If City hadnt agreed to the move then a temporary stadium would have been used
Little did we know that the takeover by Sheikh Mansour would accelerate the regeneration of the district, amazing how different factors all came together

I don’t get why they have kept the athletics track at the London stadium. How many times will the Olympics come back to these shores and the world athletics championships? Hardly worth keeping a 60,000 seater facility ticking over just incase that happens.

The Etihad was always designed as a football stadium, what is now the first tier was already constructed underneath the running track and the North Stand was temporarily built for the commonwealth games so it was a site entrance for finishing the football stadium ! West Ham have inherited a atheists stadium which is disguised to look like a football stadium with temporary stands and tiers added. It's not worked its a complete mess. Sold their souls by owners getting it for free in reality and now stuck with it. Unfortunately they will never be a top six side with their current owners or stadium @

No wonder many West Ham fans don't believe in it.

My information regarding timings are similar but as previously mentioned the stand will include a hotel , apparently the bottom of the stand outside pushes out more .
I’m personally involved with the electrical infrastructure which will start possibly during the world cup this year .
I've also heard about the hotel, let's hope it's not a travelodge!! Will you be looking for any Electricians when you get on site? Would be a dream job to get on.

I went on Sunday and it was actually not as bad as I thought it would be, although it would have been much better if it was planned as a football stadium from the outset. When you look at the costs involved though, the conversion to a football stadium cost about twice as much as our stadium cost in its entirety, and that was on top of the initial build cost, making the overall cost about 5 times as high based on our original capacity of 48,000. Allowing for inflation the cost per seat is about 3 times as much and we all paid for it out of taxes, whereas in our case we contributed the Maine Road site plus £20m and we've already paid in rent more than the cost of the rest of it. The way our stadium was designed and financed is a great example of a win win situation for everyone. In West Ham's case, the only winners were West Ham because they kept the proceeds of the sale of Upton Park and managed to get a great deal on the new stadium. Even then they have the downside of having a stadium that looks wrong.

Went on Sunday. The London Stadium is a dreadful and soulless Athletics stadium, still.

And to think, it cost the UK tax payer £340mill to convert it into a football stadium for West Ham, who pay a piecemeal yearly rent to use it.
