Etihad Campus, Stadium and Collar Site Development Thread

City keep matters confidential until all elements of a particular phase or signing are complete and secure.....it will all happen in sequence, its a question of when.

The economic outlook is not good !!

I’m not saying they (City or CFG) are or will do, but they can’t put off building the proposals because of the current economic claimante. Another deep recession could last between 3 to 5 years. That’s another 3-5 years wasted. Eventually the economy will bounce back again. Now is the time to build the proposals because they will be finished towards the end of any current recession and the start of economic growth. Recesssions come and go in cycles.

The fact that the arena is well over budget, but still under construction, albeit behind schedule, is very reassuring, and shows the determination of CFG and Silverlake to get the arena built, regardless of the spiralling costs.

Let’s not kid ourselves. If Sheikh Mansour and ADUG wanted to fund these developments on their own, they could. Sheikh Mansour has a personal fortune of $20bill. He has access to $bill’s at very favourable rates, if not for free? Money is not a problem for Sheikh Mansour and ADUG.

I and many other would agree on the benefits of timing.

However, others will have reams of trends data, demographic analysis, population forecasts, occupancy %, fiscal returns etc that will or has shaped their decisions.

Rich people remain rich by getting the key decisions right !!

Can you check? Etihad really needs a rail link
No chance of a rail link directly from Piccadilly to The Etihad. It'd need a part of the viaduct re-building to complete the loop otherwise the driver will have to change ends at Ashbury which limits the size of the train being used. This won't be cost effective (IMO).
That whole stretch of track of Piccadilly to Ashbury is just too busy to fit more trains in, even on just a match/concert day.

14 years is a long time for that data to stop the Collar site from being developed. And much of those 14 years have been economic growth.

I appreciate during that time the CFA has been built and the South stand has been expanded.

Since the inception of Manchester Life, ADUG, an investment vehicle, has built 8 residential developments around Ancoats and New Islington. https://mcrlife.co.uk/

TBH I’m more than a little frustrated that there hasn’t even been a proposal for the Collar site made public, let alone a planning application submitted, and a start on site, 14 years on Since Sheikh Mansour bought the club.

The silence from the MCC is also very strange considering how happy and buoyed they and Sir Richard Leese were when Manchester won the Super Casino bid. You’d think MCC would be a bit frustrated in private with ADUG at the lack progress on the site that could have created and sustained 10,000’s of new jobs by now.

Yes, the arena is under construction, and there are solid rumours of a proposed hotel on the corner of the Collar site. That is a plus.

May have already been posted?

There seemed to be works going on again in that corner right next to the bridge today.

You’ll be fine. :)

Nice pic by the way.

This is a good read, tells you what is happening behind the scene and what is going to happen on the site if the council and developers work together
