Is the arena still on schedule for completion next year?
Yes, this is why it probably won’t happen. A train using a reinstalled viaduct would only be able to leave from one of the low number platforms at Piccadilly, avoiding crossing too many points, which means Piccadilly is the terminus. If you compare this with a train from Newcastle going through Victoria then through the Ordsall Chord into Piccadilly 13/14 it can then go onto the airport or other places so is a more flexible and useful solution. Trains calling at one city centre station then finishing at another just add traffic for little gain.No chance of a rail link directly from Piccadilly to The Etihad. It'd need a part of the viaduct re-building to complete the loop otherwise the driver will have to change ends at Ashbury which limits the size of the train being used. This won't be cost effective (IMO).
That whole stretch of track of Piccadilly to Ashbury is just too busy to fit more trains in, even on just a match/concert day.

Didn’t that get cancelled or am I thinking of something else?
4+ months delay. Unlikely to hear that officially until April though. Is the arena still on schedule for completion next year?
Fernandinho deserves a statue before any of those. And as for Sterling, no chance he'll get one, especially as he was willing to run his contract down before Chelsea came calling.View attachment 61007
Statues of the future !!!!!!!
Yes. The University pulled out. They didn’t want their students to have to traipse over to East Manchester. Apparently it didn’t go down well with MCC.
It’s now based on Oxford Road.
