If you were going to make a real statement with a stadium, it would be hard to do with just the stadium alone (in my opinion). Nice lighting, dramatic shapes... it's been done...

Maybe you'd have to be very off the wall and the stadium was something else too... a giant seaworld or some crazy hotel like the Burj Al Arab (Dubai)... obviously that's not feasible, but it would need to be quite spectacular to truly be the envy of the world.

Of course, if you just fancy cramming in 60K - then that's a purely functional issue, and can be done (for a cost)... it's just finding the right cost that's will feasibly give a return.

Personally I like the look of our stadium, but look 'grubby' in terms of exterior concrete finish. It could look much more spectacular with (maybe) more glass, or even wood / steel.
There is a need for more seats. An architectural statement is secondary

Tricky one that... it's not entirely clear (to me) how many more seats we could sell... it'll all exciting to imagine 60K (or more) but could we actually fill it?. I know lots will scream 'yes!' - but many talk out of their arse and don't actually think things through.
Plus, if we were to extend, 'getting it right' is another challenge.... you don't want to spend a fortune doing the work, only to need to extend again shortly after, or make that architectural statement later... you MIGHT choose to do both at the same time...

Right now, we seem to be selling out at 47K for prem games, but we didn't always sell out for CL (from memory) and certainly not for most cup games, including a league cup semi....
When you weigh up the benefits of extending you have to look at capacity across ALL games, and, it's important to keep as close to capacity as you can to keep prices higher and promote the perception of high demand.

From 47K to 55K might be within our reach.... 60K is quite a jump. I personally suspect we might need a couple more years of success before we can be comfortable holding our own with 60K.

I know fans that are already starting to be careful about which games they attend (primarily for financial reasons) and some of the previously 'glamorous' games are now not quite as high on the agenda... i.e. League Cup Semi, Charity Shield etc). It seems a pretty tight line City have to tread. Of course, I could be way wrong on that, and they can just hike the prices up as they see fit, and if some fans won't pay... a new, wealthier plastic fan will...

Just my opinion of course.

You need to think more than more than just seats, boxes, stairs and a concourse.

It's going to be a tower block hotel isn't it...?

I suspect there will be significant additional space for non-match day as well as match day use.

At last a sensible post, fill in the corners (not cost a lot) should add 3 to 4 thou on the gate then have a look again if we can shift 51 thou game after game,I want to see the ticket exchange sell out weeks before games before City throw vast amounts of money around on the ground.

I think we need to stop thinking small time.

Everything about the club is going to get bigger & bigger. The rags were well behind where we are now when the Premier League started. We heve the capability to expand much much quicker than they did. What took them 20 odd years, we can do in less than ten. Things have changed.

Re the roof, I get the impression he is talking about keeping the front of the roof where it is but raising the back, tilting it so the line of sight from the new, higher, stands would be similar to the sides.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Is anyone in agreement with regards to stadium capacity in that if we Build the seats, bums will appear on them?

The longer the queue, the more likely people will attach themselves to the queue.
As right now, we are one of the best shows at the theatre house.

My view of this stems from when The Away Club haven't sold all their tickets, and give them back to City.
The "type" of fan which then vacates these seats is far different than the more regular fan who reside in Blocks 111/110.

They tend not to stand, although to their left all the away fans all stood, and to their right all the City fans are stood.

They tend not to involve themselves in chanting, and the only emotion I've seen them involved with is when City have scored, and this has usually been a more polite clap, rather than a more emotional response.

These fans to me are not regulars, and even though they are kitted out in the latest Club merchandise, they behave like they are "new" to the stadium experience.

The more spare seats that become available, the more this type of fan will take these seats, just like what happened at Sold Trafford.

We could sell out a 60k stadium for a League game, I have no doubt.
Hardcore fans? No, but people who are attaching themselves to this club.

Plastic fans as we know them. But Plastics with cash at their disposal.

Your definition of "plastics" is true of around 80% of the current attendance. Maybe the people who get the odd ticket when they are more readily available fall into the majority.

But 80% are ST holders. We could sell more of them leaving a similar amount of matchday tickets for purchase

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I know this has been debated before on here and it will be interesting to see how th owners go with this.
It's been said that the Nou Camp and the Theatre of screams rarely sell out these days so why not have 5k or even 10k empty as long as there is another 10k on top of the 47 now.
Also, can we follow the German model and decrease (or hold at least)prices meaning more turn up. I wish I knew now!
