A question for the more informed amongst us in the construction business. Is it standard practice to hire one company for architectural work and another for construction. Why not use one company?

You might be confused between Civil Engineers, Construction and Architects

City have used Rafael Vinoly for the design of the CFA a practice that has been used in Abu Dahbi you can see this at the end of the CFA video

BAM are the construction company and may well be supplying civil engineering as well

I suggest that the "buildings on North carpark" are a representation of what the Holt Town development my become http://www.east-manchester.com/living/living-neighbourhoods/holt-town/index.htm

Could be. I remember that scheme (which I'm sure is still on the back burner) being classed as the largest regeneration projects in the UK (and that's pre ADUG). It's clear they'll marry that up with the other plans. Didn't realise Holt Town arcs around the area past the North Car Parks, but thinking about it now, it probably does.

Cheers.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I noticed that the "builders" are the same firm who put up the new Co-op HQ. Don't like the design of that building, but they have delivered it on time. It's almost complete and a very demanding design so the builders are very competent

And when I look at the photos in this thread I am struck by the scale of the place and the amount of work already done, yet when you walk through their, to and from the game, the visitor is totally unaware of the work going on. It doesn't have the appearance of a vast construction site. Must be all hidden away behind hoardings at eye level

Great stuff but a shame about the bridge. Seems we have gone from something iconic to a standard functional walkway. Must be a cost thing.

Indeed it is, the bridge was never part of the tender/bid, i think MCFC was looking at a specialist sub-contractor for that. Neither was the college part of the bid either.

-- Sat Sep 15, 2012 10:23 am --

There are many separate disciplines on the project. As far as i know BAM are just doing the building. There are even engineers who have worked out the shadow(s) cast by the sun & at what times. The list of "specialist" disciplines is one of the most extensive i have ever seen

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I quite regular see the shop window at Eastlands broken by vandals i'm guessing were gonna have a crack team of ex SAS security guards to keep the grounds safe as we all know the rags are usually armed with red paint and dutch courage.

I hadnt realised it was the same people who are doing the new Co-op building. We'll have to disagree about the Co-op building, I think it's fantastic.

AT a hell of a cost, complexed design & round the clock working to get it finished. Least the MCFC project isnt as complexed in its design

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

There´s something odd about the bridge..If the design is altered why doesn´t anyone mention it?
The first set of vision designs was all about this iconic bridge, now..silence?

I can understand if it became to complicated, to expensive or whatever but not the current silence

Do you think that it's gone silent because it's possible linked to the site where the casino was going to be. So it could be linked to whatever is going there.
