The Mercedes garage next to the ground is being given planning permission to extend at the back of the current facility. There were rumours that the land it sits on was to become part of the Etihad Campus. Not earth shattering i know but it does still suggest things are relatively fluid in terms of the enlarged area and what is being proposed for it. Anybody else shed anymore light?

Hmmm...interesting. I (amongst a fair few I guess) have been led to believe chunks of land are being purchased by the day and this Mercedes garage would be a minor brush aside in terms of it relocating (there are business links between Mercedes and Mansour, at least in terms of shares held apparently?). Whether it's Mercedes pusing up their worth of land or not...god knows?!

Aabar owns 9.1% of Daimler-Benz yes..But from that to a garage in Manchester ;-)

Reading then carefully dissecting between your lines....'Mercedes World' it is then ;)

-- Tue Dec 11, 2012 6:30 pm --

Land has and is being purchased by the club or companies associated with it and that is perfectly logical as once the developments are started the cost of the same land will sky rocket.

It is also perfectly logical to allow the expansion of a site that may not be bought/developed for several years as long as a price is agreed beforehand.

That means that Merc' will earn more for now and then relocate rather than the club having a bit of land that remains fallow for many years.

That said I dont know for definite that the Merc' garage will definitely go.

Cheers fbloke.

Its actually the council who are appropriating the land via a CPO and then selling on to the Dealership. Doesn't sound to me as if the Garage are going any time soon. Can GXCity confirm whether its part of the greater scheme?

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I was there today and the scale of the Acadamy from the site offices is breathtaking.

A lot of work has gone into this and it is fantastic to actually see it taking shape at long last

The plans you have seen, can you recall if any development includes the current Mercedes Dealership next to the groun?. As there was speculation early on in the old "Las Vegas" thread that the potential was for it to move. PM if you prefer.

The land behind Mercedes is not part of the plans although I wouldn't rule this out in the future.

It's still shown on the plans so I am guessing it is staying. TBH if you were Mercedes why would you want to move given the scale of investment and the money pouring into the area. I would imagine they can't believe their luck that they have such a prominent position

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

When are we likely to see these plans?
