Something i've wondered for a while and not sure if it has been touched on by fbloke or anyone else who has any info..

Is there any money to be made by running certain fast food takeaways inside the stadium, McDonalds, KFC, Wimpy, Subway etc or is it moneyless due to them being franchises? I'm sure I read the caterinf at City isn't run inhouse anyway but i'm not 100% on that

We sold the franchise to Jamie Oliver's company to provide all catering, Lindley's provide until the end of the season, that incorporates all inside Stadium catering.
So 'salads only' from next year then???

Ages ago I was told that there was an intention to introduce new franchise names to the campus.

Its not about getting the same stuff as you can get at any shopping centre but getting things that you dont see very often if at all in the UK.

I suspect that most of that will be found in the leisure destination and not necessarily in the stadium.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Lately I tend to grab something outside like the pulled pork on a baguette rather than the same old shit burgers etc inside. I hope at some point there are 'proper' eateries on the campus, Nandos etc where atleast you can sit down and have something to eat with the Mrs before getting pissed and watching the game

If the aim is for families to spend the day rather than just stop for the match you have to feed them in clean and friendly surroundings and not as they do at the Traff' Ctr with the food hall experience.

City have agreed a long-term partnership with state-of-the-art match and training pitch providers, Desso Sports Systems.

The club have already played on the hybrid grass system Desso GrassMaster that the company produces for many years but it’s been confirmed that the pitches at the new City Football Academy will use Desso grass systems.

Jon Stemp, Chief Infrastructure Officer Manchester City said: “To secure the club’s future as one of the world’s leading football clubs, it is vital that MCFC create a sustainable environment for continuous excellence.

“Partners also play a key role in this sustainability, because with their support, MCFC have the capacity to maintain the projects in the future.

“MCFC and Desso Sports Systems both share the same desire for research and innovation, which results in a unique and effective partnership.

“Desso Sports Systems are the innovative leader in pitch technology. The consistency and durability that Desso GrassMaster ensures, has contributed immensely to MCFC’s on field success.

“Together with our combined expertise, MCFC and Desso, secure a sustainable future.”

Before the 2014/15 season, 30,000m2 Desso hybrid grass, including an exact replica of the stadium pitch and 33.000m2 Desso artificial turf will be installed.

The 80 acre City Football Academy which will be connected by a bridge to the Etihad Stadium, consists of a 7000-seater youth stadium, a training centre of 400 youth players and a rehabilitation centre for the first-team.

Marc Vercammen, General Manager for Desso Sports Systems said: “The partnership with Manchester City offers us a unique opportunity to further innovate our pitch technologies.

“We will use the feedback of players, trainers and the club management to further improve our grass systems.

“The collaboration strengthens our international position as innovative supplier of sports surfaces.”

Of course not.
I could do with something similar (but mousey brown) for the top of my crown.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Thought any plans for a National Basketball centre would be closer to (or embedded in) the Etihad Campus, but I guess it's part of the wider East Manchester developments.

Council unveils £10m 'sports village'

MANCHESTER City Council is planning to commit £10.6m to new sports facilities in East Manchester which will include a 6,500-capacity National Speedway Stadium.

If the funding is approved at an executive meeting today, the council will also refurbish Belle Vue Leisure Centre, and develop a National Basketball Centre and playing fields, including a rugby pitch.

The Belle Vue Sports Village will be developed on council-owned land next to the Belle Vue dog track on Kirkmanshulme Lane, Longsight. The work will involve the demolition of existing leisure facilities.

The council said a programme of events, including speedway, rugby league and basketball, could attract between 50,000 and 80,000 visitors a year.

The speedway stadium will cost £4.5m to build which is being funded by council borrowings.

It will be the home of the Belle Vue Aces and managed by Belle Vue Arenas Ltd, which has not yet been incorporated. Rent will be paid to the council.

The other amenities are being covered by a £590,000 grant from English Basketball and borrowings that will be paid back from income the council earns from renting the Etihad Stadium to Manchester City.

A report to the council's executive said: "These new facilities, as well as securing significant community usage, also seek to ensure that a number of national and international sporting events can be hosted within them so as to add to the existing major events programme in Manchester."

No, the Eastlands Community Plan always made clear that it would be at Belle Vue. I think that the basketball governing body is slated to take space in the 'House of Sport' office building at the Beswick Hub if that goes ahead eventually (but it will be a subsequent phase of those plans, because it isn't in the first phase which includes the leisure centre across the road from the sports clinic and sixth form college that will be on land at the edge of the Campus). And if there's an indoor arena built next to or near the Etihad Stadium at some point, as has been consistently whispered about, then both Manchester Giants fixtures and basketball internationals could well take place there, I guess. Basketball could therefore play quite a significant role in the sporting development of East Manchester as a whole, but the National Basketball Centre has always been planned for Belle Vue.
