The North Car parks are easily big enough to house a stadium
There was a feasibility study done and they can get an 80,000 seater on that site.

I'd imagine that also applies to the Analine Site?

However, the design brief we now have for the new training ground (bridge etc) would pretty much indicate the stadium is going nowhere.

If anything, it all seems to suggest it will now have a great big arse end integrated into it from the North side tennis HQ and Athletics stadium.

I've said this before, but ADUG did seriously explore the option of building a new stadium on the north car park. The difficulty was that, if a new ground was built, City wanted to knock down the existing stadium to free up space for other developments, but Sport England wouldn't play ball. City looked into whether, by taking out the lower tier and maybe putting in a track, the existing stadium could have a viable future if the club moved out, but decided against it sometime in the first half of 2009.

Since then, the focus has been on expanding the existing stadium above the 60K-ish that you'd get by simply taking the third tier round at both ends as per the original feasibility study. This will involve rerouting Ashton New Road to create more space at the south end of the stadium, and is rumoured to involve them building in facilities (maybe shops, restaurants, museum etc) at the north end of the ground, too.

This was discussed back somewhere in the Vegas thread at quite some length. It was, of course, heightened when in February 2011 (i.e. over a year ago), the draft Eastlands Regeneration Framework was published suggesting that the athletics stadium, English Institute of Sport, tennis and squash facilities could be moved to the Beswick Hub. Again, this was all discussed on the Vegas thread a year ago: people suggesting that this is a new development are wrong. (Incidentally, I have heard a rumour that the athletics stadium could go not to Beswick but to Ten Acres Lane, where the first FC United stadium plan was mooted, but I've no idea whether this is likely to be true).

The latest document suggests that this plan for expansion, as opposed to a new build, is still on track. Indeed, there's very little in this Report that's new in terms of the principles of what will be done.

One thing that it does contain is detail of the planned delivery the non-MCFC sports and other facilities for East Manc (Belle Vue sports village; House of Sport for governing bodies at Beswick; new sixth form college; sports medicine and sports science institute; Beswick sports hub; and Ten Acres Lane development). When the training ground plans were announced, certain hacks derided the community benefits that it was claimed would follow. Maybe some people might now think that the plans already published aren't quite so pie in the sky.

And it contains an outline of the nuts and bolts of the ongoing relationship between MCFC and the Council in terms of the 'collar site' to the east of the stadium plus future development. This suggests to me that they're getting ready to go to market looking for partners to operate a major leisure attraction on that site, as per the plans previously released. It doesn't seem such a stretch to suggest that this will go hand in had with an announcement of at least the first phase stadium expansion, though this is obviously speculation.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

As an apartment owner in the Sportcity flats opposite, I've been following this & the original thread avidly.

My initial thoughts from reading the latest plans were that there is a problem attracting the right sort of investment to the site.

They have made it clear that the priority for the attraction, that's aim is to be a national and international destination, is to be in keeping with the sporty theme of the area. But what attractions are there that are sports related, want people to flock to 365 days per year and make money and bring further investment?

The collar site is not huge, but, I think this was mentioned in the original thread, Ferrari World as per Abu Dhabis' would be a perfect fit.

Right size and unique to the UK.

Unfortunately, having read through the document it does appear that they are struggling to attract the right kind of investment onto the collar site. The council are obviously concerned as they have a buy back option on the collar site if it isn't more than 25% developed over the next 15 years. Hopefully this is just an issue related to the current economic climate and the options will begin to mature over the medium term.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I'm inclined to take the report at face value. It suggests that the commitment City's ownership is making to developing the new training ground has the potential to unlock interest from the private sector. Bear in mind that we've been hearing over and over again from media sources and rival fans the opinion that Mansour is bound to get bored and clear off sooner or later. Quite possibly, that's what the market has been worrying about as well. The practical demonstration of a long-term belief in the club's future will hopefully ease any fears potential partners have on that score.

I actually think that, in a funny way, the current economic climate could work to our favour in this. There are relatively few ambitious projects around at the moment that have a chance of attracting funding; once the wider world gets a handle on the nature and scale of what's planned here by a party with access to the contacts and finance that ADUG does, we'll be fighting off interested parties with a stick.

EDIT - Just a little more on the relocation of the athletics arena and the other sports facilities. These were paid for by Sport England as part of the Commonwealth Games legacy, and there's no prospect of our being allowed simply to ditch them to do something that would make us more money. However, it does seem as though - unlike with the main stadium - Sport England is OK with them being knocked down if replaced with equivalent or better facilities nearby. If that happens, then it'll be the party wanting the land in question for development that foots the bill - i.e. MCFC.

This means that there'd have to be a compelling commercial case to incur the cost of replacing those facilities with a view to the financial benefit we'd derive from whatever replaced them. As this is, one assumes, likely to be an expansion to the stadium together with other commercial outlets and hospitality facilities, that would seem to be pretty much a given. Remember how, when they were bidding for post-2012 use of the Olympic site at Stratford, Spurs were prepared to incur the cost of building a 25,000-seater purpose-built athletics venue elsewhere in London if they were allowed to pursue their own ends in the Olympic Park. It would definitely be worth the cost.

Interview with HB at MIPIM. Very unpbeat about our owners and the plans for East Manchester. Click on the link to watch the video.

MIPIM 2012: Manchester councils hoping to raise £500m for infrastructure
8 March 2012 | By David Doyle., Nick Johnstone

Bernstein, speaking at the MIPIM conference in Cannes, was discussing the recently announced £100m fund across all of Manchester’s eleven local authorities.

He also discussed the amount of development taking place in the city and how this compares to demand, and investment in the city by Manchester City footbal club owner Etihad.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Can we get the thread title changed back to include Las Vegas please - this thread is a woman to find now and it IS the Son-of-the Las Vegas thread

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Just reading through the article and one thing that struck me was this little snippet:

The funders for this proposed facility are anticipated to include Manchester
City Football Club (via a S106 contribution related to the MCFA development),
Sport England (an application will be made for 'Iconic Buildings' funding) and
the City Council (from the Eastlands Reserve Fund) Final Business Case and
Business Plan along with designs will be completed by July 2012 and if
supported a planning application will be made in autumn 2012. The current
programme envisages that a start on site will be made in spring 2013 and that
completion of the facility would be achieved in August 2014.

My interpretation is that the Sport England Building will be a place built with the intention to better sport in the area and would contribute directly to continuing the legacy of the 2012 Games? (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.sportengland.org/funding/iconic_facilities.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.sportengland.org/funding/ico ... ities.aspx</a>)

We are so lucky to have HH Sheikh Mansour as our owner.

I think the Futbol World that emerged from the same designers of the Ferrari World is the most likeliest leisure facility. Emerged a few years back in 2010 and is probably being considered as the most feasible option. http://www.jackrouse.com/sport/Futbol-World.cfm#

This proposed high-tech theme park is a year-round entertainment centre celebrating the thrills, emotion and passion of football. Working in conjunction with Takenaka Architects (UK), Jack Rouse Associates is providing the theme design for this mixed-use development.

Futbol World visitors will enjoy some of the world’s most innovative entertainment and educational opportunities dedicated to the sport of football while also enjoying a wide variety of exciting dining and shopping experiences.

The proposed development will consist of a 3-D action cinema highlighting the thrills of the game, a simulator experience where guests “become the ball,” a 360° cinema in which guests are the center of the game, and over 5,000 square meters of associated shopping and interactive modules.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I never really bought into that futbol world concept...perhaps it's the 'cutting edge' drawings (how dated do those tellys on the wall look!) and a shopping experience which wouldn't cut the mustard in the Birchwood Shopping Centre in Warrington.
It might be part of the leisure development but can't see how a 3D goal keeper is going to draw in 6 million people a year.
Think I'd rather have Vespre Silhouette World...
