There are reports emerging today that we could get to hear all of our owners' plans before the Spring is out...

A public enquiry is now set to take place as a result of the council wanting to move forward with a compulsory order bid.

The CPO will force landowners to sell back to council at market value.

It would go before the Secretary of State for communities following a public enquiry before a government planning inspector.

If it gets that far, City will have to unveil even more details for the area.

Think we're all a little late...I think you'll find the develoment will be called 'Glow World'.
By the looks of it this evening, it's half built. Stunning Eco architecture too.

...do you get the impression that the owners would prefer to time their own announcements rather than having their hands forced by certain landholders?
The end of a successful season (not guaranteed of course) would be good, though I still think all involved are scratching their heads over the perfect leisure tenant.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

On the face of it, it seems we may have gone a bit overboard on the number of outside pitches provided. What was it 16 pitches?
Even if we had 16 teams/squads surely they could play each other. IMO a better balance would to have more indoor facilities away from prying press eyes.
Does anyone know why we have gone for so many?

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

I get the feeling the leisure destination plans have been brought forward so to get the revenues that they will produce onto the balance sheet to counter any future ffp difficulties.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

There are no "leisure destination plans". Yet.

The CPO's are for the Training Ground site. Why would they have to release details of any other "plans"? If there are any?

There are almost certainly plans: it would be rather surprising for them to have spent GBP 17 million on remediating the land and the reached an agreement for the Council to transfer the land to a JV in which MCFC is the majority shareholder if there aren't. I suppose it's a matter of conjecture as to how settled and detailed any plans are, but they'll exist.

The reason why this may well come out is that the Council have already trailed City's commitment to invest in the training ground as being an important factor in marketing any plans to potential investors/partners. When they present their arguments - as they'll have to - regarding why it's justified to use CPO powers in this situation, they'll probably make a play of this.

In other words, the claim will most likely be that the CPOs will be used in furtherance of plans that will enable MCFC to complete a project that will then help to unlock further investment in the area. This will create hundreds of jobs in a deprived part of the city.

It would be difficult to run that argument without offering some idea of what's planned. I doubt whether an assertion that, "It will help us achieve something fantastic down the line but we're not saying what," would cut much ice! ;)

All I'm saying is there's a fairly big difference between "This is what we'd like to do" and "This is what we're going to do".

But the fact that so much has been put in to preparing the ground probably should be enough to uphold the CPOs. I just doubt we're going to hear any more detail than we currently have, since it seems that there are no final plans for the Collar site, yet. The only concrete plans seem to be for the training ground, but I guess we'll find that out when this "hearing" happens.

Real Madird's own leisure destination.
The United Arab Emirates, which is home to the palm-tree shaped Palm Jumeriah and other exotic offerings like the Burj-Al- Arab, a hotel on a man-made island, and also the Burj Khalifa which houses the Armani Hotel, is now going to play host to a billion dollar project of the Real Madrid Football club. Currently in talks with the Emirate of Ras-Al-Khaimah, the Real Madrid Club folks are looking to create another artificial island resort in the Gulf Coast, which will which include a marina, 10,000-seat capacity sports arena, luxurious hotel, a amusement park, villas and also a club museum. Of course, it is now at the stage of being approved and construction is to begin on a fully fledged scale, 2015 January is when this mega-project is stated to be complete and open its doors for the public to use.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

The headline suggested more info than the article gave away, at least in regard to any connection to the Etihad Campus/Sport Boulevard (or whatever it's going to be called...), but entirely possible a link with the club and area could be a reality:

Manchester takes key role in basketball

Manchester will have a major role to play in promoting the future of basketball in the UK, according to the head of marketing at the NBA.

The regular season NBA basketball game scheduled to be held at the O2 in London this month was cancelled because a player versus team owners labour dispute has led to a truncated season.
But Mark Tatum, head of global marketing partnerships at the American-based NBA major basketball league, says Manchester is filling the UK breach as it hosts two high level USA versus Team GB games in the run up to the Olympics this summer.

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Hmm, was this cancellation coincidential or not?

Money plays a big difference now, NBA would never of looked "Up North" if it wasn't for our Sheikh

Does anyone know where/how to obtain tickets for this NBA event? the article doesn't let on... I don't personally like the sport but my Brother loves it
