Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

Not exactly City related but could be of some worth.

The site of Manchester’s scrapped supercasino could become home to a major leisure and entertainment centre. Manchester council is planning to set up a new company with Manchester City to secure the development of the land, next to the Etihad Stadium. The company is one of two being set up with the Blues as they remain at the heart of plans to sell east Manchester as an international destination. One will focus on the transformation of the Etihad Campus – the area around the stadium which is to include the new training ground and community facilities. The second will concentrate on redeveloping the site where the supercasino would have been built, according to papers going before the council’s executive this week. If approved, the businesses will be set up by the council in partnership with City and its land-holding arm, Brookshaw Developments Limited. The business would acquire the land from the council at market value. Council chief executive Sir Howard Bernstein, and Eddie Smith, from regeneration group New East Manchester, will sit on the company boards as directors. Council leader Sir Richard Leese said: "These proposals formalise the principles which were agreed between Manchester City Football Club, Manchester City Council and New East Manchester some time ago and demonstrate the ongoing commitment by us all to the regeneration of East Manchester. "They allow us to continue to explore all opportunities to bring forward commercially-viable proposals to extend the destination role of the area, creating jobs and opportunities for the people of East Manchester. They also allow us to bring forward a delivery structure to enable us to develop those opportunities when their viability has been determined."

Not sure what they're looking at here. I thought it was agreed many years ago this plot of land would house a leisure/entertainment complex. I'm patient and it's clear something will be created here one day, and best to wait for the right solution...but I have to wonder how many proposals have been explored and rejected in the process. It must be difficult to plan for a project hoping to pull in 6 million odd 'passengers' a year...if however, various plans are in place, then kudos to those involved for keeping it all watertight. Could do with some of that in my knackered combo boiler...

Re: Etihad Campus & potential new stadium

There are reports emerging today that we could get to hear all of our owners' plans before the Spring is out...

A public enquiry is now set to take place as a result of the council wanting to move forward with a compulsory order bid.

The CPO will force landowners to sell back to council at market value.

It would go before the Secretary of State for communities following a public enquiry before a government planning inspector.

If it gets that far, City will have to unveil even more details for the area.

MEN.

Manchester City could be brought before a public inquiry this spring as part of a dispute with landowners who are blocking their plans for a training ground opposite the Etihad Stadium.

The M.E.N. can reveal that town hall chiefs are preparing to move forward with a compulsory purchase order bid, before the summer, to help push through the plans if agreements cannot be reached with the two businesses standing in the Blues’ way.

If successful, a CPO would force the landowners in the 80-acre area of Openshaw West to sell to the council at market value.

Manchester City’s £100m training campus plans

City’s £100m complex would include a 7,000-capacity arena, community sports facilities and sixth form college.

The decision on whether to grant an order would be made by the secretary of state for communities following a public inquiry before a government planning inspector.

It is expected the Blues would have to reveal more details than ever about their plans for the area should the hearing take place.

The club’s training ground scheme sits at the heart of a major regeneration framework expected to change the fortunes of east Manchester and deliver new jobs by turning the area into a world capital of sport.

New East Manchester regeneration chief Eddie Smith told a meeting of Manchester council’s executive: "Hopefully we can have a resolution of this of this before we get into CPO.

"We have to have these (land)owners coming to the table and wanting to engage in positive dialogue but the CPO is the last recourse we have and we are ready and prepared for it."
