An announcement will also be made over the next couple of months with regards to what will be built on the once-controversial Bradford Colliery site that sits adjacent to the stadium, with plans for a leisure and tourism destination of 'national significance' having been put forward by Manchester City Council. The plot, which was the intended site for the proposed 'Supercasino' in 2007, is said to be interesting a number of global powerhouses in the leisure and technology industries.
Haven't kept myself updated of the earlier developments, Any idea as to why the super casino plan was rejected? From a purely financial motive, a casino would have been the best option to fill our coffers..

Gordon Brown knocked it on the head when he was PM (rightly in my own personal view) back in 2008. http://news.sky.com/story/583001/manchesters-supercasino-plans-bust.
Mind you the claimed one billion pound annual income would have finally seen the little frenchman curl up and die.

At risk of ridicule a mate of mine has told me that planning applications are expected early in the new year for a Casino and Hotel on the stadium site.
Just passing on what I've heard. His source is a town hall employee :-)

Thanks for that.

Sounds interesting, if true?

All I would say is, Leisure destination instead of Casino. He may have got that mixed up? Can definitely see the Hotel.

Any chance you could ask him to do a bit more fishing. ;-) I'm sure he could get a bit more info. :-)

I would be very surprised if a casino were to be built. Hotel, we all expect though.

A mate of mine who works for Khaldoon mentioned this last night

The hotel is going to be built, they are also going to put a shopping complex in and are looking at condos.

Shops and flats? Hardly of international significance. You get shops and flats everywhere.

When they were preparing the ground adjacent to the East Stand I remember reading it would be capable of supporting an 18 storey building. Maybe the shops and flats could be incorporated into the same structure as the Hotel. Still room for an attraction of international significance to the north of The Etihad.

Instead of Disney or Ferrari World, I think the attraction will be something to do with virtual reality, 'Virtual World.' It may even be called 'We're not really here.'

how will this benefit us financially if the council are proposing it and global powerhouses in the leisure and technology industries moving into it.
