I hope we dig down.

The City ground is on a hill so should be above the water table

And the effect of digging down would be to make the fans closer to the pitch which would improve the atmosphere. We should pursue every angle.

can't see that happening - pitch is full of undersoil heating and of course its already 7 metres down from the mean ground level - eventually you'd hit something nasty.

I'd suggest they would reprofile the slope of the current bottom four rows so that (for example) for the same drop they fit four more rows in ... like so

X|
X|=
XXX|
XXX|= current
XXXX| profile
XXXX|=
XXXXX|
XXXXX|=

X|
X|=_|
XXXX|=_|
XXXXXXX|=_| new profile
XXXXXXXXXX|=_|
XXXXXXXXXXXXX|=_|
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|=|
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|=

You get about 1000 seats for every additional row at the bottom - so worth doing if you can get 3 or 4 extra rows (65,000 capacity anyone?)

That lower tier is very shallow currently. Reckon the shorties would start having their view blocked by tha lankies!
possibly - which is the same reason why Safe Standing is shit BTW

As I have said many times. The plans are in place and have been for a long time. Once we consistently fill the proposed 60k expansion, further expansion will be implemented.

And once the first few phases of the collar site are open then I don't see why we can't do that. The 80k stadium is probably a good 10 - 15 years off but it will happen.

Remind me. When did our owner say he was f@cking off?
GX I know you said this in the past, and apologies if I slighted you, it was just that ONLY YOU who'd said it. on here. now its well out in the public domain from officially sanctioned sources. and Rags should now be officially worried that one day The Swamp may only be the second biggest stadium in Manchester... ha ha !!!

I don't remember you slighting me at all mate so no problem here.

Certain other regular posters on here are now hopefully realising that what I have posted is true and it is now slowly coming out into the public domain. Remember that the initial expansion wasn't going to happen for 10 - 15 years according to some! :)

Next up the Collar site!
D'oooooooh!!! You bloody tease you!

Having a quick look at the progress photos of the CFA on the CFA Aerial Views website and it is staggering just how much has been done in such a short space of time.

I am quite lucky in that I live locally so I am able to see the progress on a dily basis pretty much, but for those supporters who live further afield it must be so good to come to the games (or the area) and see the progress on a wider scale. I have a mate who is a Chelsea fan and he is amazed at what is happening, and how quickly it is too.

completely pointless question but.. I wonder how the club decided on a capacity of 7000 for the Minihad? Why not 6k or 8k?

Yep. Silly Question.
Actually I was wondering myself why it wasn't planned as 6,837 and ¾ ?

Aha - there's a cunning plan in there somewhere isn't there? if we start putting in ¾ sized seats at the Etihad then when the ends are done, the capacity would rise to ... 82,000!

I seem to remember the site lines didn't work when you dug down further. I.e you wouldn't be able to see the pitch touch line from certain seats??

You may be right the person in the exhibition didn't know how it was going to be done, just that it was part of the plans. I couldn't see any other way, but cleverer people than me might have other ways of adding a few rows. Digging up the whole pitch does seem a bit over the top just to add a few rows.

When you walk out of the tunnel, you walk up hill, so there is definitely the option to dig down

What ever happened to those users who emphatically stated that it was absolutely impossible to expand the Etihad?

They used to pull out all these diagrams to prove their point and say how they'd spoken with people who did the original design etc.

I was one who said that due to the roof design it was very difficult, not impossible, to expand and many agreed, also that any solution would be very costly. If you look at the compromised solution it encompasses the primary structure (CableNet) of the original roof, including building around the ground anchor points. So I would suggest that myself and others have been proven right. I would also venture to suggest that the logistics and the timeline will add to the cost, worth it though as very few spectators will be inconvenienced Futher development solution for the East & West stands will be interesting

Christ, if that's being proven right, I wouldn't like to see what you're like when you're wrong.

There are very few if any comments on this thread from fans of other clubs, plenty post on Bluemoon so if any do take a peep on this thread their comments would be most welcome.
