You can still get back to the Airviews Aerial Shots courtesy of Google's Cache

Driving down Clayton Lane for the first time for a few weeks and noticed the temporary hoarding is down and replaced by wire fencing, I guess they are going to be building the walls soon (JRB - you won't need a ladder for a few weeks) and they have started laying the outer pitches.

Looking better every day.

Thanks Steve. Still a shame we can't view future images.

Lowering the pitch is feasible, but will involve quite a lot of work with drainage and undersoil heating, but what has potential empty seats got to do with the Council?

nothing in the planning app talks about lowering the pitch. no mention of works associated with this. only 'addition of extra front row seating'
therefore bollocks

There is loads of space between the pitch and first row of seating currently as a legacy from the commonwealth games design of the stadium. Loads of scope to add more rows but it would be at the expense of the slight lines with the pitch of the terracing having to be significantly shallower than at present.

Still it's a very cheap quick and easy way of adding significant numbers of new seats if done around the entire stadium. Of course the new seats would not be covered by the current roof but with new stands at either end of the ground the entire roof is gong to have to be reworked anyway due to the cantilevered design.

There is no way we will be digging down for more seats, I am surprised people are even talking about this it shows a complete lack of understanding of the construction of the stadium. Significant elements of the operational infrastructure of the stadium are below the pitch and stands of the ground.

Wouldn't they have shit views though, if they're on the same level as the front row at present, and on the same level as each other?

Yes that's what I said ! The line of sight would be inferior to that on the lower tier at the front currently. Arsenal went closer to the pitch with their lower tiers and its a criticism of the fans at the emirates that the viewing angles on the lower tier are not great.

At an extreme you are going to see this issue with the retractable seats at west hams conversion of the Olympics stadium. However the current views from the lower tier are very good at city, the question is would people be willing to put up with inferior views for another 3 - 5 thousands seats if they were reasonably priced ?

It's a very cheap, quick and easy way to add a load of seats at the end of the day.

Was told by a laing orourke employee that if they go ahead with the extra front row seating then the pitch will be lowered and that the council is only allowing the one end to be extended for now because they cant substantiate the extra capacity without guarantees of it being filled.

What a load of bollocks!.....what has it got to do with the Council....something smelly here!

I hope it is bollocks but its what ive been told, and the stadium is still owned by the council so surely they would have a say?
Complete and utter bollocks. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Your contact is clearly a rag. The council would approve expansion to 90,000 for nothing even if City could not fill it - FACT! Manchester gets another feather in its bow by having one of the largest stadiums in Europe which can attract big non-football events. Why would the council stop expansion when they pay nothing to operate the stadium?

My take on adding extra rows at the front is that they won't lower the whole pitch, just dig down around the edge and reprofile the run off so that it looks similar to the swamp (I hope it'll look better though), also the new seating will have a slightly shallower rake so the view wont be as good it is in the current front rows. But it is only an extra 3 rows of seating so the shallow rake wont make much difference.

I would expect they would rebuild the south stand first as expanding the north stand also means relocating city square for which there would need to be further planning permission.

City square is pretty much a temporary construction anyway, they hardly spend anything on it in the scheme of things.

When they redevelope the stand at that end its likely they will just incorporate the functionality offered there in the new stand but to a better standard.

This might be old news so apologies if it is (awaits the titanic pictures), but there will be a Futsal Arena opening on the Etihad Campus this May.

I haven`t read through ALL the pages so it may have already been mentioned.
