EU Referendum Thread

I'm not sure yet, I want to hear the whys and wherefores, but I really abhor unelected career meddlers with little appetite for forward thinking being given such huge budgets to squander

It is simple for me Unelected means no.

The will of the people must be paramount

German State TV in "Expresses exactly the same pro-EU sentiments as all other EU State TV channels" shock scoop.

Can you add why to my post earlier in the thread why a EU army and Police force is something to vote against

Rather than just being anti EU per se

I forgot to say that i was thinking of it from what i would like to see. Which is an elected EU president and fully democratic EU. In that form we would have as much say as we have now.
If it were a democratic trading union then yes, I don't think many people could see an issue with a unified, continental armed forces but the question would remain which nations forces would provide the bulk of the active personnel and who would be in command of them. Would ALL nations of the EU, even the ones which have announced their neutrality, be expected to contribute both personnel as well and how many?

Imagine that, one minute you're neutral, the next you're being told your people and nation, who are neutral in all manner of armed conflicts, are not contributing as many soldiers to the EU army as other countries in the Union and are now being called up to fight by a bunch of unelected bureaucrats protecting "their" union or face possible sanctions and penalities. Personally i'd be more than a little peeved.

Wrong way to look at it. The EU is a vehicle that is moving the separate countries into a single one. A national army and police force are merely logical extensions of that state.

When the EU arrives at its eventual destination, it will still have unelected leaders and that's what I oppose. The fact that the unelected leaders of the EU will be in charge of an army, a police force and a judicial system as well as a civil service and a system of government only makes it easier to disagree with.

Surprisingly the reference to Island Monkeys made it past the German TV censors or maybe they are not as wrapped up in themselves as our censors? It was funny though and if anything it shows that humour can point out our differences and underlying feelings on how we speak to each other.
Could we make a documentary about those crafty square-headed cabbage crunchers ;)
