EU Referendum Thread

. They want an EU Army, an EU Police Force. .

I was thinking about this today.

If we stay in the EU it is surely a good thing as the EU would have an army to match Russia. And an EU police force seems logical too. Crime is increasingly cross border so why not cross border crime fight.

Economies of scale on both these issues would also save the taxpayer money.

Can any of you explain why its a bad thing?

Im Anti for very different reasons to the free movement of people

I want a fully democratic EU with an elected EU President and a fully elected legislature as well. In my view it is the only sensible way we can forward as a nation and as a continent

Cameron dare not even try for this, for this nor could any UK politician as the argument stands because of the issue of free movement.

I will not get my wishes because the RWNJs in the Tory party see division before Internationalism and they see our democracy as being intrinsically UK owned . That is a fair standpoint for somebody who wants to keep there job. Thats the cynic in me,

I want to leave the EU because the Democratic process is flawed. I am a Democrat and as Benn alluded to it is the lack of Democracy that will see the the EU as it stands fail.

To think that immigration, Poles here etc is the reason to vote out is to me an oxymoron, it really is not the issue....Democracy is and should be the main issue
.
Man alive that is quite possibly the first and only time I have ever agreed with one of your posts Rascal.

German view of the "inselaffe" doing the rounds

The English, the British, the English, the British.

Does the host of this show not realise that England and Britain are not one and the same thing?

The Commission would control it for one thing.

Why would you want an army to match Russia and antagonise an already tempestuous situation by building an uber army right on their doorstep? If Russia does decide to invade Europe than the whole world will fight against them so the demand for an EU Army on the grounds of 'protection' is moot.

It wouldn't necessarily save on taxpayers money, especially if the EU decided that the new superarmy needed MORE investment. Except we'd be in a position where we could do nothing about it.
They could reintroduce the draft and we couldn't have a say. They could lower the enlistment age. There's no telling what they could do but at least with the current situation if OUR politicians try anything the public disagrees with we can show our opposition by democratically removing them and installing politicians who have the public interest at heart. With an EU Army controlled by the unelected Commission, the people would have no control whatsoever. We'd be back to the 1960's having angry old men playing with the lives of hundreds of millions only without our support or approval.

I forgot to say that i was thinking of it from what i would like to see. Which is an elected EU president and fully democratic EU. In that form we would have as much say as we have now.

That's the issue isn't though Rasc, accountability is out of the window with some aspects of the EU
