The reasons we should have a general election in my opinion are:

1. I don't think the country would trust Cameron to cut the best deal for us.
2. If that sparked a Tory leadership war then whoever wins, say out of Osborne and Johnson, would not have the full backing of the conservative Westminster MPs.

Both the above points will drive for an election, I suspect an election will address your other point about EU legislation through party manifestos.

I think there will be an election between 6 and 12 months after the referendum next Thursday!

There will only be a general election if Tory MPs vote against the government or abstain in a vote of confidence. If the Tories change their leader, following the party rules, and then MPs vote to bring down the government, what would they expect to gain?

In fairness to the debate, I think it is important for posters to signal if they live outside the UK because we now realise that a lot of the flak EB2 has take has been a little bit hypocritical! We will let AlgarveBlu off!

I get what you're saying, however I don't think this Tory party, with such a slender majority could form a government, not even a rainbow government. Plus I they will feel that JC as leader of the opposition they will gave their best chance of winning it.

Either way, in or out, election or no election, there will be some interesting politics coming to us in the days ahead!

I agree where people live isn't a big deal to the debate on here. That said, IMHO it would be preferable if people who've left our country weren't allowed a vote in the referendum.

That is what happened in the Scottish referendum and since the Brexiters have stole the SNP's Comms strategy, there would be consistency too!

For as long as we have Corbyn as the leader of the opposition I suspect you could be correct. Having said that, after the referendum I suspect ere will be siesmic shifts in the political structures, regardless of whether we remain or we leave. This referendum may be the best thing that has happened to us politically. We are due a major shakeup and upheaval.

It depends people said that about the US and they had Cruz battling Donald. It seems that shake ups are just making things more short term, more populist and more dumbed down - I don't share your optimism and I see the same issue in or out

Clearly it makes a huge difference if you don't have to live with the consequences of the referendum. The remain voters living in Australia will not have to worry about say the NHS bring swamped by a million Turkish immigrants or UK bailing out the Euro at some point

I don#t think anyone who does not reside or pay taxes in this country should have a vote on this
