Re: EURO 2012: Day 1 Matchday thread !

Mario Gomez is born in Germany with a german mother, why should he play for spain? Jerome Boateng has a german mother and was born in Berlin. Mesut Özil was born in Gelsenkirchen and never lived or played in Turkey. Sami Khedira was born in Stuttgart by his german mother.

You can talk about Klose and Podolski, both born in Poland. Their parents had the right to come to West-Germany in the 1980s because the families had been germans before the war. The deal was, that communist Poland got about one billion marks and let go some 100,000 people, claiming to be of german origin (or their shepherd dogs, as the common joke in west-germany was at the time). Podolski came to west-germany at the age of two anyway.

the others aren´t in the team.

Worst opening day to a big tournament I can remember, four poor teams but not to worry the real stuff starts tomorrow.

What?
England wouldn't live with Russia, they'd be hammered!

I thought it was one of the best I can remember and I go back to the 1966 WC! If you're talking technically maybe so but in terms of incident and entertainment it was excellent IMO.

Did Lee Dixon just say behind the front 4 Holland aren't that great a team? haha.

Bold claim and entitled to his opinion, but can't say I'd agree with him!

Yes but they have been before, it still counts

Jetro Willems playing at just 18 years of age, bet our scouts are watching him with Kolarov on the way out.
