European away games ticketing policy

If the Barca game (or any other Euro away) goes to general sale, then there will be no need for checks as anyone who wanted a ticket will have got one.

I don't really see why those who went to Bucharest had to collect. Seems to me that the system should only be used for sell outs, and then perhaps require 10% to collect.

But if it were that simple, I cant see why the club haven't introduced a better system. This process must be a right hassle for them. None of the theories that have been put forward as to why they want all of that hassle (eg to encourage fans to go on official trips) seem to me to stack up.

I'm going to guess that people that were having tickets passed onto them by mates have got to be pretty dedicated blues to travel to Europe to watch city.
The chances are they are now going to qualify under their own points now anyway ?

The only games where this becomes an issue are the likes of Barcelona (1st time), Seville, Ajax and our recent trip to Celtic. Domestic ones are obviously the Derby, Liverpool, arsenal, Spurs away and any small grounds like Bournemouth and maybe burnley & Watford.

So no they're not really very dedicated in my opinion. They're in general big game fairweather supporters who happen to know somebody who's willing to sell their ticket on.

My colleague is a United season ticket holder who went to watch them play away in Madrid a couple of years ago. He was successful in the ballot and a week after finding out was contacted via email to say he would have to collect his ticket in Madrid. Apparently they randomly select around 20% of the fans attending and apply this rule (to avoid touting). When he arrived in Madrid he did what most City fans did and headed to Plaza Mayor. There he found a little booth similar to the program booths outside the Etihad who were distributing the tickets.

My question is, why can United have a little Booth in the main area fans are congregating, whereas City decide to rent out an incredibly inconvenient building to do it?

Celtic, Barca, and Arsenal do not have to queue for tickets abroad !
Celtic fans have to send the club proof of travel arrangements before tickets are issued and can only be bought from the ticket office in person or ditribited on official travel partner flights etc.

United suspended the ticket collection completely in Rotterdam as they feared it was a potential security risk. That shows a level of common sense and flexibility that we appear to be lacking. Perhaps that's why they chose to let Chisholm defect!!

Someone earlier in the thread said it stops knobheads going, it certainly doesnt ! we were in the queue for 90 mins when a coach full of coked up pricks turned up. One particualr knob said 'it doesnt say anywhere on my fuckin letter i have to queue, so you can all fuck off' and about 15 pushed in the queue. they the threatened someone to knock him out for telling them to get in the queue. It was an absolute farce.
I will echoe what someone said earlier, what industry treats their paying customers in that manner ? Nobody in any other walk of life would stand for that treatment.

Exactly, so avoid the very inconvenient ticket collection abroard

Some people still don't seem to get it!
The system was not introduced to stop points whoring ! It Is to allow the club to ensure the person buying the ticket is the one sitting in the seat. people have suggested various ways of achieving this without having to queue up abroard. The reason the club seems to be going overboard with collections/wristbands etc still isn't clear. So stop harping on about you love the system because it's fairer and at least the tickets go to the right people, that element will not change !

Surely there system is something we could take points from if people have booked travel and can prove they have made arrangements they're shouldn't be any concern that said person wouldn't be going to the game , the only problem with City is they release information far too late for this to viable ,I agree with the ticket collections to a certain extent but don't agree with the planning of it and the system they have in place to distribute the tickets
