European super league

But how can anyone support the status quote either? UEFA are run by our enemies under the veil of fairness, honesty and integrity.

Good question mate, if it were up to me I would fuck European competitions off but it isn't going to happen. But to actually genuinely believe that it would be better controlled by Perez is a fools errand X 20.

According to the Sun, I know, the Super League is back with a new name and new format.

Until you read the article you won't know how stupid and complicated the proposal is.

EU WHAT?

European Super League is BACK in new £2.7BILLION ‘Unify League’ format… and it could replace Champions League

Absolute yank nonsense that sounds like

You'd want some sort of guarantee about independence and integrity, for sure. I'm not sure you'll ever get that with either UEFA or the ESL.

Probably not going to get it from the group of people who tried to grab it behind everyone else back the first time around by dealing in the shadows with the big clubs, with the intention of locking everyone else out.

Well, exactly. If there are no guarantees about it remaining meritocratic then it's a non-starter.

When the previous attempt had Joel Glazer as vice president of the super league you can guess it’s not exactly going to be run in a way that benefits all clubs equally. Still pisses me off the club had the statement about the impending arrival of the super league written by Glazer splashed across our website.

It’s also laughable that they went out the first time to create the league system UEFA adopted, then this time have went out to create the group system UEFA have just dropped.
It’s almost like they don’t know what is the best system, and they are just trying to do something different for the money grab.

A Super League of some sort is inevitable. The clubs will run their own broadcasting and get a 100 per cent slice of all the broadcast, sponsorship, and ticket revenues. The clubs own the content and there is no way they want to give a large chunk of their revenues to UEFA. They will cut out all the mainstream media firms like SKY which is why these groups are fighting the idea tooth and nail. If the clubs can set up a fair split of the money and stop the corruption (a big if to be fair) it might be a good idea (as long as City are on the top table). If they ringfence some cash to reduce ticket prices for matchgoers and ensure that domestic leagues are protected then I think it will get widespread support.

Good post. A lot of people hear the words 'European Super League' and immediately get turned off by the idea. Their last attempt damaged trust between clubs and fans, so they are having to tread very carefully this time. But in principle, I like it. I want the broadcasting rights to be held by the club. I'd be happy to watch games through City's own platform with our own pundits. I despise Sky. I hate the hold that they have over the domestic game. If we can make football more affordable for armchair and match-going fans then I'm more than interested.
