European super league

For the conspiracy theorists who believe the players are downing tools because the world is about to cave in due to 115 charges. Here’s the alternative take on it, the Super League is back on the agenda because the PL have tried and have probably failed in their piss poor attempt to destroy our club.

It’s no coincidence the Super League reared its head after the CAS verdict had happened. 115 charges is a power play from a group of clubs who have a gun to the head of Uefa and the Premier League because they want City gone. Now that is about to go in the bin here they are again taking their bat and ball home.

Much, much more likely scenario.

Nobody knows anything though mate, only certain people who are movers and shakers, the money shufflers know what is going to happen or what IS happening.

What we do know however is that there is money in football and with that in mind whoever is running it will have their own needs catered for and not the sports.

Personally I think the CL new format is the start of a new European Super League. They've finally got a table where they can see everyone on the same page and not spread over 8 groups.

Then they will streamline it and finally they will manipulate it to get their beloved history clubs in it and then roll it out to be played over the course of a season on a league basis. For example if its a 24 team league there may be 12 home games and 12 aways against teams with a similar coefficient.

I'll give it 5 years.

There already is a European Super League, it is Uefa sanctioned and called something different. It actually predated the Champions League as groups were used in the old European Cup in 91/92.

A competing ESL is really what we are talking about and, if the money is right, enough clubs have a chance of getting in, or were to get some compensation, the PL would vote for it.

This time it has potential to take over. The key this time is it's a meritocracy, based on domestic performance in the previous season. That removes a huge sticking point for lots of fans. Secondly, it is free-to-air. Absolutely nobody can oppose that. Thirdly, I believe tickets for games will be capped at £20/€25. Again, who can argue with that? Personally, I'm not against the idea. The old stumbling blocks have been removed. Why should we defend UEFA's hegemony of rip-off ticket prices and tv packages? The only reservations I have are around what the future holds - will all of the above eventually be scrapped? Will it become a closed shop with rip-off tickets and pay-per-view streaming? If there can be some sort of legal guarantee that this doesn't happen then I'm open to the idea.

Yes, I think its interesting that its raised its head again, will happen imo.

If Real are behind it my only worry is that they and the Red Cartel are very hostile towards us and the likes of Newcastle.
