European super league

It's a non-starter used as a smokescreen to introduce something marginally less controversial. Probably wild cards but could also be something else to protect the former cartel.
UEFA or FIFA could refuse to sanction it and could announce clubs participating would be banned from other official tournaments and their players banned from internationals. They won't of course, they'll just look at ways of getting their own snouts in the trough as they did with the re-formatted Champions League.

I hate the idea of it (I still think that the FA Cup is a better 'watch than the Champions League for example). However, if it is going to happen, we need to be right in the middle of it - if you can't beat them, join them and dominate them. It would be a great shame if it happened, but there is no point in being left behind or like King Canute trying to stop the inevitable.

I'd have been against this when we were not at the top of the pile, so to be for it now would be hypocritical. Something very raggy and self entitled about the whole idea.
Probably explains why the general gist of our thread on here is that it's bollocks, a desperate attempt to cling on to the past by clubs who refuse to see the writing on the wall (they are done). Fuck that. The "competition" would generate mild interest for a season or so, then any observer would realise there is no competition, it becomes boring, football dies. Well done dickheads!

Best choice is leave them to it and to implode, remove City from it and carry on with other like minded clubs. Not invited? Not arsed.

We can't afford to think like that though. For one, city have been invited - there are pictures proving Soriano was at the meeting - and you can bet that he will not turn the invitation down. As said above, though, the problem is that this competition would not be a failure, and we certainly can't approach this assuming it would. Sure, it might post the loess attendance figures of any competition we're in but you can be sure that there are enough plastics around the UK and worldwide who would lap this up that they would more than justify their involvement with the sheer financials - and since it wouldn't be UEFA organised then they would likely distribute TV rights to multiple companies in each country, so the TV press would absolutely be all over it too.

Mods: feel free to merge, wasnt sure so started a new thread

on city watch twitter, apparently us, united, chelsea, arse and dippers have met in secret about a european super league to replace CL. Not sure about this at all...
I said this was coming years ago. Was laughed at. I said we'll no longer play villa toon and spurs it'll be barca Madrid and Co. With plane travel so accessible it'll be easier than getting to Norwich etc. Not sure what happens if we leave the EU mind.
