Euthanasia, Death and General Anesthetics.

It must be different Denis regarding breed or drugs administered. Our Rottweiler lifted his head abruptly and then his eyes gently rolled back unto obvlivion .. and that was the end and we never saw any indication of suffering or pain from him.

There was a series of programs on the televeision concerning assisted Euthanisia im Switzeralnd and the one that stuck in my mind was a 50 year old college professor called Craig Ewert who suffered from a dreadful malady and decided to make the journey abroad to allieviate his and his families suffering.

I have attached it on here but only as a spoiler as our code of conduct makes clear mention of what we can or cannot show regarding death. Death .. that manner of being that will eventually encapsulate us all is played out in such a profound and dignified manner by the program makers that it could hardly foster ill feeling.

If any of you are of a religious persuation or are against assisted dying then do not click the spoiler program link below which is around 50 minutes long.

Very touching. In a way happy, yet in another way sad.

As no animal has ever been able to describe the process how sure are you it is painless?
Dogs I ‘ve had put down have quite a reaction as the drug hits.
Fair point and that's quite disturbing to hear.

I've been present when several of my dogs have been put down, actually holding them in my arms and it's been like they've literally just closed their eyes and gone to sleep.

Indeed, I have held all my animals in my arms at their time and I have had dogs and cats go just as you describe.
Sadly I’ve had two dogs that didn’t go like that.

Just suddenly switching off plays on my mind a bit. Like the poor passengers on the planes that hit the WTC..instant none-existence. It's an uncomfortable feeling I get when thinking about it.
That's life, though...a slight interruption in eternal none-existence.

I’m exactly the same, just can’t get my head around it

This is obviously a very emotive subject so I ask this with the greatest of respect but how can suicide be either legal or illegal? Why does it even have a classification? I really don't understand how this would even work. I kill myself and can then expect to be prosecuted? Oh, ok, I'll not do that then!

What's illegal is aiding another person to end their life.

My partner's mother has Parkinson's and I think got dementia. Moved into care flat couple weeks ago as her and husband unable to manage stairs in house, had few falls etc. New place got warden, alarms if fall etc. I've noticed rapid decline in her mental state in last few months. Not sure where she's living, who her daughter or husband is. Now incontinent and even struggling to grasp she needs to sit down on toilet if she makes it. Been standing over it just pissing on mat so wearing incontinent pants now. Can't get dressed or undressed without help. Last night my partner's dad rang about 9 to say her mum was running up and down the corridors of care flats banging doors, ringing bells, shouting out to street for help as he had a knife and trying to kill her. So sad to see her in this state. When we arrived she thought we'd knives as well. We got her calmed down and she fell asleep. Not sure what today holds

Yep. Watched my granddad go very slowly from vascular dementia. Never want that to happen to me.

Kill me as soon as I get diagnosed. Might even hire a hitman to get me when I'm not looking.
