You're probably not wrong, he's played senior competitive football for his country though so even if he was a total **** he can't switch.Best thing he can do for his career is to retire from Irish football and become English, like his mentors Rice and Grealish.

He’s proper Irish though not just a ponce looking for a step up in his career.
Grealish and Rice born in UK to Irish parents. Completely Irish really but knew they could advance careers playing for England. Sad but true

If someone is born in England and goes to an English school and has English friends growing up surrounded by English culture they might well end up feeling very....English.
Equally, they might be grow up feeling more attached to their parents' culture and country of origin.
They are entitled to choose whatever they like in that scenario without any judgement from you or anyone else.
