I didn't use google, how is a nocturnal fruit bat going catch and eat insects? Fruits bats don't use echolocation, they use sight and smell, hardly a brilliant set of senses for catching small insects at night. Just fly through the air with their mouths open?

Plus there's no point, especially for the larger ones, totally counterproductive to spend your time chasing small insects when your whole life history is based around eating stationary, energy rich foods like fruit or nectar.

Do we humans in the Western world still live in a Dawinian survival of the fittest environment? Or have we moved past that to where we can now seperate ourselves from such behaviour? with over 1 billion overweight in the developed world and with the advances in Science and the insane amount of variety of nutritional non-meat foods about. I think we have.
I also work full time aswell as study thankyou very much for your puerile prejudices.

As was said at TED this year with the rapid growth in genetic engineering, we humans have now entered a change in our species, moving from homosapien to Homo evolutis- One who can alter his own existence and that of creatures and environments around him.
We should be looking to save everything we can.

I do believe we are in the darwinian mould. If we didn't eat we'd die and we need that same variety still.
The advances in science are in no way capable of replacing real food. We don't need fake food ever. We need the real deal. I'd say we were hundreds of years away from anything close to synthetic food being anywhere near as good as the real stuff.

You can point to obesity but that is in no way because we have meat in our diet. It is down to our excessive selves. We could point out the fact that some veggies are malnourished. But it doesn't give a true argument.

They have big eyes and see in black and white, so that they don't fly into tree trunks.

Its called omnivorous, some species of fruit bats may be, but many are specialist feeders on fruit and nectar, perhaps if you consider a cow to be omnivorous because it occasionally accidently eats an ant whilst grazing, then you could consder fruits bats omnivorous too, but i suspect if you tried to argue that cows are anything but herbivores you'd be told to be quiet.
