Everton (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

So made up again to see Josko in such immense form playing at his rightful position, it’s shameful that it’s taken so long for him to be playing there regularly.

On a negative note, I do think it shows how much we need a top drawer partner for him at the back on the right, as Dias looks dreadful still - no pace, no aerial domainance, and shits himself every time the ball comes near him. He manages some good last ditch blocks but that’s about it.

AlL about results at this stage and yesterday was a huge win.

Failure to qualify for the CL would be a disaster for the club and for me would set us back years.

We have to attract elite players this summer and if we can't give them CL then they simply won't consider us.
Absolutely right .....

Aside from the obvious money that the Champions League brings in, it also promotes prestige on clubs who enter it .... 'anybody who's anybody' wants to play in it, and top players will always value it ..... we have had a good run at consistently qualifying for it, and we need to keep it going .. we need top teams, football associations and football fans all around the world to EXPECT us to be there 'year upon year', and ask questions if we're not ..... and if we can win the FA Cup whilst we're at it, then so much the better, because, aside from it adding to our honours list, a lot of football fans and players throughout the world still value that famous old competition too .... winning things, with regularity, keeps your 'name in the frame'.

I can still remember the names of lesser known clubs from places like Hungary, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Romania etc simply because, for donkeys years, they have reguarly participated in European competition .... clubs i would never otherwise have even heard of.

I think we watch different players Rico is a much better defender than Nunes!! Yes not as quick or strong but reads the game better and is a safer passer. As stated Nunes is an accident waiting to happen. Neither of then is what we need as a right back.
Rico is a better defender. You’ve got me there. He has cost us more goals than Nunes this season.

I don't care. Five more games when we play shite and win them all, without the majority of our players that are injured, I will take it all day long at the moment.
Let me clarify my post. I am usually a fan that wants us to produce fantastic attractive winning football. At the moment let's just win, I don't care how we get there just win. It's for the greater good of our great club.

75 minutes of lethargy followed by 15 minutes of getting on the front foot and scoring 2 goals.

Listen, I'm no top flight coach, but I just don't understand how a manager with Pep's credentials cannot see that playing the way we did for 75 minutes (and in many other games this season) simply doesn't work anymore. The fact he watched that dross for most of the game and only decided to swap things around so late on is really strange. Leaving 15 minutes to win a must win game is a big risk, luckily this time it paid off, but it hasn't paid off in so many other games.

I really hope that things change next season, with new players or not, we need to update our style of play a bit, or at least just play with a more positive mindset.

Looking at the table that was a huge win, even in a season when we are not competing for the title the pressure to win every game during the run in is there.

Loads of us blues in Warrington. A good mix of us, dippers and rags and some good banter. Great town to live in and amazing transport links. Enjoyed it since I moved here.
Good to hear it mate. I wasn’t knocking Warrington as a place at all btw, it was just that I recall being told in the past virtually everyone from there was either a united or liverpool fan.

Everton fans showing their class by clapping KDB when he was taking a corner at the Gwladys Street end and then he got clapped by their fans when he got subbed.

Reminds me of us with Thierry Henry in 06 (i think) when he ran the show at ours. We applauded him at every corner of the ground, and his post match interview he was taken aback with the reception he got from us and how amazing as fans we are.

Yes I have to admit it feels strange.
Maybe he wanted to conserve for the Tuesday game. Maybe he wanted to offer the old guards a warm send off by winning by a goal from Bernie or Gundo out of nowhere. But this play style has been proven a failure against any PL side this season. It’s like a page had been turned and they still live in the previous page.

The rags have proved you don't need CL to still get the elite players

At 80mins I was suggesting that EFC were gonna scab it. No, said my ERO, Moyes will replace his striker with a fullback, like he always does. City will get this, he sez. 84 mins oooooooh I say, told yer, he sez. This is gonna be 0-2. No, I sez, it'll sooner be 1-1 than 0-2! Dya wanna bet that it'll end 1-1 than 0-2. He didn't take up my fair offer.

Right. Also, the tv exposure around the world, esp in USA, is based on champs league. That in turn enhances sponsorship money.

Disagree.
It does still work and is the most successful system it just needs players at the top of their game. If the squad can be refreshed it will still be successful.
This run around a lot style is not consistent. Teams win 4-0 one week then lost 4-0 the next. No team in Europe has any consistency.

Thought we played well. They never really looked like winning it and all they did was go with the ‘we will not loose’ mentality and it backfired on them. Once we started to pass the ball quicker they couldn’t cope. Good three points as they were tough to break down.

These 'we will not loose' teams will help destroy the pl. Who wants to pay to watch teams not wanting to win in sport ?
