Everton (H) Post-Match Thread

Much better with 3 at the back. I like our shape a lot defensively and it got us passing the ball again.
Its quite incredible that two of those three are midfielders. A strategy that would never have been applied by our nutcase, Pep Guardiola but will be the future probably. Same with the sweeper-keeper. It was ridiculed at the time and yet, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool et al now play with one.

Thought the team played well and controlled the game without ever really getting into top gear. Mendy is starting to look a bit more confident and is showing flashes of the player he can hopefully become.

On Bravo, I will always support our players, but I am surprised he has stayed as long as he has, there has to be a better option out there as he just doesn’t seem to be very good at goal keeping!

Good performance from Phil, hopefully he will get plenty of game time between now and the end of the season.

Garcia also played well, still have reservations about him due to lack of pace, but if he keeps reading the game well, and has someone pacey alongside him he can hopefully be a mainstay in the team.

Thought Garcia was very good.....will be intersting to see how Pep continues to use him once Laporte/Stones are fit

His lack of physicality would be a concern but he is a very clever footballer and great with he ball at his feet which is what Pep wants...he aint afraid fo a challenge either. ....at some point he is going to have to be thrown in against top class opposition to see how he does. Im wondering if this is the reason for the change sof system by Pep - to give Garcia and Ferna a bit more protection?

A foul (or the vast majority of those type of decisions) are always going to be subjective. Just because the VAR officials agree with the ref on the pitch doesnt make them wrong or more importantly the process has failed......just cause i think it was a red card (and others think that) doesnt mean we are correct..
On some days it will be given - on others not.....depending upon the official, depending on possibly what the payer has commited foul wise on the pitch before (at least for the on field ref) - VAR just happened to agree witht he ref on this point that it wasnt a sending off...I think they were wrong and it was a sending off

Human beings will have differing views of the exact same incident....a foul/sending off isnt a black and white decision....offside is closer to this (though the rules are abit fucked up with what body part etc)

Not sure what’s more boring VAR or your reluctant wankathon over it !!

Top notch from quite a few
Mendy had his best game in ages
Well done, Garcia. Likewise Foden.

The only downpoints were the fannies on the Match day thread. My last visit. Sick and tired of reading "football is fucked" and "Mt season card's in the bin". The crucial VAR decisions tonight were CORRECT. Put the boot on the other foot. Had the same decisions gone AGAINST Everton, I bet some of the two faced fuckers wouldn't be bemoaning VAR, and it taking the emotion away from THEIR fans celebrating.

Oh, and that accident waiting to happen, in goal.
I'm in my fifty first year.
I drink too much
I'm asthmatic
I haven't "gone in nets" since 1986, when I last played "three and in" on the playing fields behind my mum and dad's house, yet I'm probably more reliable than the bloke, tonight.

Too think, we cast aside a x4 Golden Gloves winner, for this whopper
take it you didn't go then as Var for anyone who was there was total shite

Same side v Port ale on Saturday, ensuring our "big hitters" are fresh for the swamp, on Tuesday, after their (hopefully) defeat by Wolves

We moved the ball a lot quicker and made space for each other. gave away a stupid goal, seemed like we played with more zip today, the passing was crisp at times, good to see Foden blitz pressing defenders.
we should have had 4 or 5 but a win is a win. Onwards to the next game. Hopefully there’s no injuries. If only Mahrez would move the ball like we know he can.
