Everton Post Match Thread

Some good shouts there S.My favourite was Tommy Hutchison as he could play either wing and still cross a decent ball with his "wrong" foot.

Yes forgot about Tommy, great signing at the time along with Bobby Mac and Gerry Gow.

This from Proy......which I agree with

QUOTE:

4 or 5 times Sterling had the ball at the by line. I play the game non professionally and have done for a number of years. That doesn't make me an expert, but when he got there, I'm looking up. And I can't believe it. There isn't a fucking soul in the box. In fact we are all stood on the edge of it. So it goes back and then gets played around the edge of the box. It literally is like watching Arsenal. I also think it's a tactic

For a team with so much pace on either side I find it totally perplexing that we don't support the play in our box when attacking. We don't go forward in numbers.

Like you said, meat and drink to championship sides tonight. They'd have scored a fuckload.

This was my bitch as soon as I got back B and its from page 34 :
How the fuck can you possibly win football games with one fucking player regularly in the box.And for fucks sake Pelle MAKE the cunts shoot instead of trying to walk the ball in.The right conditions wre there tonight to have a fucking bang.

Aye, you're right = by the strict laws of the game it was a foul therefore a pen., but there's the spirit of the game too and because he went looking for it I'm not sorry it wasn't given. Excuse me for being so Corinthian, there's still a few of us left.

probably the worst post I've ever seen on here

Here are the after match comments from Martinez.

"We have been on the back end of receiving a penalty, in the last seconds against Stoke," said the Spaniard. "Stones goes to slide to block the ball, Sterling does not play the ball and waited. In my eyes it is an area that is not certain if it's a penalty or not. I believe the referees should control their emotions and the referee did exactly that. It is impossible to be 100% certain and I am pleased he did this and showed his maturity."

What utter rubbish. The referee is there to apply the laws of the game, which say if there is a foul by a player in his own penalty area, then a penalty should be awarded against him. The referee is not there to control his own emotions, whatever that might mean.

How did Sterling not play the ball? He was in possession of it, and Stones didn't touch it. It is as clear a penalty as you will ever see. But even if the ball was with Joe Hart, it was still a foul in the penalty area, and the correct decision was a penalty.

Mind you, Martinez has history for talking absolute nonsense about City. When Weimann scored that offside goal for Villa against us in 2013 he commented that the linesman "did well to allow it to play". In other words, he did well to miss the offside. Funny, I've never heard him compliment a referee for failing to spot an offside against Everton. The clip is here, after 29 minutes.

I've no time for the man. He just makes up stuff to suit his own agenda. He has no integrity or legitimacy in my eyes, but he strives to come across as erudite and knowledgeable.

Here is a genuine question for most of you.
Would you have brought on Ihenacho? - if so -who would you have subbed?. and what formation would you have employed.?
The only players to be considered for subbing would have to be - Aguero ? - Navas ? - Sterling? - KdB (who was subbed by Silva).
Fernando needed to stay on (had a good game) . Also Pellers would not have subbed yaya. -

Ihenacho will be seeking to leave in the summer - I would guess.

Well for what use he was in the second half ... Big Joe.

would have brought on Kelechi for KDB instead of Silva.

Disappointing result really, Everton are a f**king bore to watch, time wasting after 10 minutes, foul after foul (many not given), looking to nick a goal on the break, and then defend with 10 behind the ball, the longer it went the more I feared the worst, so that was a positive I guess. We were pretty unlucky, Howard 3 good saves, 1 he knew nothing about, at least 1 penalty not given, and how many blocks did they get in ? Dreadful officials as usual, but they were as bad for Everton as they were us (penalty apart).

Don't understand why Delph didn't start, or even get on, he was good with Fernando at Norwich, and it would have allowed Yaya further forward.

3 clear pk. 2 on kun and 1 on Sterling. Yes ref is a human but you don't repeat same mistakes three fucking times.

Joe made a great save early on. A few dodgy moments with Demichelis but Otamendi covered very well. I wouldn't mind seeing Sagna play at centre-back but perhaps Zaba wasn't ready to play two games in 4 days. Hopefully Martín will prove us all wrong again.
Forwards left a bit to be desired but maybe it's the system we're playing. Fernando pretty good, Silva was up for it when he came on and we did create chances but will need to be more clinical.
We dominated the second half but were denied a definite penalty and no doubt the win right at the end. I thought the ref was alright, sometimes quite nice to us but he is either bent or just completely bottled it. So blatant, he slid like an idiot straight into Raheem's legs.
Well despite being cheated I feel pretty happy we're only 3 points off the top. Really hope we can get revenge in the 2nd leg.

Considering all we was doing in the second half was passing it from one wing to the other and eventually hitting in more often than not crap crosses i didn't see the point in Silva. There was no movement for him to thread a ball through to and no space for him to work. I would of brought Kelechi on for KDB and gone a legitimate 4-4-2 we were playing that way anyway just with nobody in the box.

Exactly this. We had to switch to 4-4-2. Our lack of strikers ( and his lack of trust in kelechi) has been so costly this season.

God knows why Pellers won't bring Kelichi on....the lad is class and will score or create goals.

Should have been on with at least 20 to go.

Lukaku apart Everton and Norwich are of a similar level, so if he can do it against them he could have easily be good enough to make the difference against a tired defence tonight?!

One positive for me tonight was Fernando. He is consistently doing his job well.

For the last couple of weeks I've been listening to Everton fans on 5 live desperately wanting Tim Howard out of the club because he is, in their eyes, a useless.............

It was a frustrating night as we didn't have the rub of the green. Nothing fell our way tonight. Next time we play them, it will be the opposite.
