Everton - Post match thread.

I've seen Sane have two perfectly good games at wingback previously. Last night, he was average. Not shit: average.

Jesus was also average up front, in fact worse than Sane was at wingback.Do I think Jesus can't play up there ? No. Walker did nothing of note at all other than get sent off on the right side. do I think Walker can't play there ? No.

Do I know that a back 4 would have worked better ? No.
Lets just say he was poor not shit?

On the evidence of last night he is not a very good wing back. He was targeted from the start and it was a good tactic as they also clearly exposed Otto's lack of pace.
He is only a young lad but from what I have seen of him so far he would be best further forward linking up with a good wing back/full back. It would not be wise to use him in that role all season if something more serious were to happen to Mendy.

Well then, Everton caused us loads of problems 'targeting him' & Otta's lack of pace ?

In fact they caused us absolutely no trouble at all did they ? He won the ball & gave it away trying to pass it. Are we suggesting that Sane is more likely to misplace a pass, than Mendy or Danillo (or Walker for that matter) ? Of course he isn't, he is a far more talented footballer than those 3.

He fucked up a pass, it should have been easily dealt with, but the defence fell asleep & let Rooney score the same goal he scored v Mancini & Pellegrini.

Edit: it goes without saying he will play mostly as an attacker.

I'm not having a go at sane,he was put there,to blunt one of our special fast attackers is stupid, play dani there if anyone

It may have escaped your notice but of the 19 shots at least a third were blocked to some extent and another third were difficult because an extra touch was taken prior to the shot that led to a more difficult chance as it gave a defender a chance to close the player down.

I'm not sure what you're trying to suggest. Doesn't this happen every game? Not every game does a team have 19 shots on the opponents goal. Everton, for example, had 1 last night.

We missed some really good opportunities. Silva hit the post. Aguero missed at least three sitters, including one that sent KDB into a rage. Sterling, right before his goal, did the same.

We had chances and didn't take them.

Oh and we dropped two points we shouldn't have.

Alternatively, we rescued a point many thought we wouldn't.

We took more long range efforts than I've seen for some time, 6 on goal from outside the box alone. Couple of good ones from Otamendi, no less.

Pep is clearly telling them to try their luck.

Yes, Otamendi did have a few from distance, but that's sort of my point - would rather see more dependable scoring threats taking those chances, but I suppose you take what shots present themselves. Like others have said , the overall shot numbers were fine, just a feeling of one pass too many or a bit too tricky in spots for large parts of the match.

When Messi gets in the positions Silva & De Bruyne get in, he is first looking to score, second, looking to play a 1/2 then score, and only 3rd, looking to play it wide or through.

Our attacking mids often look for option 3 first.

Instead of attacking though he spent most of the time in our half despite City having most of the ball. A few attacks. I am sure that that was not what Pep intended.
