Evidence for religion

I dread to think what people could try to fit you in after this post.
Fortunately shit loads of people in this world aren't quite as closed-minded as you seem to be. This I celebrate in all sorts of ways. You don't understand this? Oh, well....

Is that taken from He-Man?
Maybe not? But maybe there is a question here along the lines of 'which is most important when it comes to knowing what is 'truth' - experience or theory? For me, in school, I was taught the former was most important and yet, more and more, I kinda prefer the latter...even if it seems to piss off a few people here. But there you go. Each to their own, right?

Just in

God or gods are a man made phenomenon. God told me that this morning in a vision.

Btw he didn’t have a beard. Just in case anybody thinks he does. Nice shoes, but no beard.
Gods always have nice shoes. They get them from Northampton. That's why the Romans invaded Britain, so they could get the same shoes their gods wore.

Centurians like nothing better than a good welted brogue.

The most closed minded people are religious bigots, as shown historically and right through to modern day life.

You don't understand this? Oh, well...!

A mind open to the heart is proof of bigotry? Interesting.

Exactly what I said and so really proving the point, religious weirdo being weird shocker.

I guess a lot of folks are still waiting on the actual answer to the post heading, I think we will be waiting a long long time.

There's a lot of evidence for religion. I can see a Church from where I am stood, this is evidence for religion. Evidence for the validity of a certain religion should be taken on a case by case basis.

But pseudo-autistic semantics aside, of course there is evidence for religion. There's evidence for literally everything in the world. Personal testimony is a form of evidence. Historical writings are a form of evidence. Logical conclusions are a form of evidence.

Ultimately what you're asking is whether there is compelling evidence for the correctness of a certain religious genesis story over and above the accepted model of the inflationary/Big Bang. And the answer is no.

This doesn't mean religion is wrong. Maybe it's unmeasurable? Maybe we just haven't found the evidence that will tip the scales in the balance towards it as a model that best explains the Universe? Maybe we have all the pieces of the jigsaw but they're in the wrong order?

The point is that it doesn't matter. When any of the above happens then we can reevaluate the model based on the evidence provided and see if it conforms to reality better than what we already have. Until that point, Genesis in a literal version is just yet another scientific model that has been surpassed by better technologies, observations and discoveries. It's a 1500 year old Steady State model - compelling and groundbreaking in its time but evidence has allowed us to refine it and have a better understanding.

This obviously isn't talking about life after death or any of those related things which is much more a philosophical than scientific question

(I haven't read through all of this thread so apologies if this has made this point already)

I'm not religious ...but... it's a bit hypocritical if I am upset because a team that I do not play for didn't win today. My weekend is ruined by var and the lack of a penalty in a game hundreds of miles away. I mean I feel physically sick. How the feck is this possible or in any way rational?

Following City is social, traditional, engaging, involves faith and promise and hope, has dark sides with enemies, controversies and conspiracies, has saints and heroes, leaders, history, myth, worship, blind faith, superstition, etc. It effects us enormously. It's part of who we are.

I fully understand that many are sceptical of religions and the time, energy and beliefs of religions' followers. Bit rich on a City Forum though.
