1. She was elected leader of the tory party because they thought a woman would attract female votes at a time when they were really desperate to get back in power.

2. Callaghan's Labour had no idea and the country was going down the pan.

3. Some people will vote for change just for the sake of it. In 1979 lots of people did that (because of 2 above)

4. She stayed in power because (a) her cabinet were too scared to challenge her, (b) Labour were clueless until John Smith took over, (c) John Smith - the only credible alternative at the time - died.

To say her 'removal' from power was glorious would be an understatement.
So basically she was elected to rescue the country from Labour, and she did exactly that. At least you admit it. God bless her.

I'm happy to admit it. Unfortunately, it turned out that she wasn't the change many actually wanted (is it ever?), but Labour couldn't have won a one-ticket raffle in 1979. Eventually, John Major rescued the country from Thatcher... Her own party hated her so much, they elected Major.... John Major...

Politics - all bollocks. History books only tell us what the writer wants us to know... Thatcher's 'press' gets more selective the nearer we get to her death. She will be remembered very fondly in 30 years time, just like the warmongering bully Churchill, as will Bloodhands Blair in 50 years.

Politicians - All wankers.

Maggie= sheer admiration.
So you hate British working people as much as she did.

Can I remind you about how many British Working People actually voted for her! Quite a lot in fact and did so repeatedly
What about the ones who were thrown on th dole due to various industries beind closed down Steel and coal. East Manchester was full of engineering factories, all gone under thatchers watch. The people of the south and affluent areas around England also voted for her. Manchester didn`t. East Manchester is actually being rebuilt by our owners!

If it wasn't the change people wanted she wouldn't have got elected, re-elected and re-elected again would she. Democracy in action.

She's remembered fondly now. Reigned in the unions that were destroying the country and made it difficult for the feckless and lazy. That's why she's a hero of mine.

You're against Churchill now as well?
