FA Cup SF | Liverpool | Sat 16 Apr 15:30 | Travel, Ticket & Pub Discussion

I thought from reading the news that there were no trains into London from Manchester. There are, you just go by Leeds or Sheffield. That's 50 minutes. I don't mind doing that because I'll sleep anyway. Not ideal but not a deal-breaker. I am an idiot for taking the news at face-value, or mis-reading it in the first place.
How will you get home Marvin ?

As usual the FA totally miss the point. It isn't about lack of trains. It is about a match being played on an Easter weekend at a stupid time.
They might put on more coaches, that just means even more people rammed into service stations and even more congestion on the M6/1, M40.
The date is the issue.

I just wish the F.A. would hurry up and give us the date and time so can get hotel sorted.
Booked ours weeks ago, premier inn uxbridge on semi flex so free cancellation up to 3 days before,
Booked Saturday and Sunday as separate bookings,
which ever is not required or both if it does get date or place changed , will get full refund,

Manchester to Sheffield line starts at Piccadilly. Lime St to Leeds might have a few Liverpool on it. Does that matter?

if there are trains cancelled because of strikes then that's a problem but train enquiries shows they are timetabled.
The express services that start at Piccadilly are TPE so will be on strike that weekend and the amended strike timetables are not available yet for that weekend - the one for this Sunday shows just two trains running to Sheffield all day. That leaves the East Midlands Trains service to Sheffield, Nottingham and Norwich via Piccadilly which starts at Lime St and is usually rammed on most weekends.

4 days these useless cunts have been dallying around now. Surely it can’t be just a case of them trying to organise some coaches to cover for the lack of trains - a primary school kid could’ve sorted those by now. There has to be more to it. The longer the delay the more hopeful I get of a switch of venue.

Easiest option is XC train Manchester to Leamington or Banbury, changing into the direct Chiltern service to Wembley Stadium station.
If you look at split ticketing options I'm sure you'll find something cheaper than the "off peak return" fares.

1 train would've covered it!
This Country, total fuck up.

City Tweet.

Manchester City has secured an initial 50 coaches to operate a day trip travel package for the FA Cup Semi-Final against Liverpool at Wembley Stadium over the weekend of 16/17 April.
This follows Network Rail’s announcement that there will be nationwide rail disruptions during the Easter Weekend, which means that direct train travel from Manchester to London Euston is unavailable.
Coach tickets will be priced at £40 per person, and further information about how you can purchase a seat and a match ticket will be issued next week.
The match will be played on either Saturday 16 or Sunday 17 April, with the date and time of kick-off still to be confirmed by the FA.

Would conductor strikes cancel trains? The trains are still timetabled?
Marv, you might’ve missed it but it’s been stated a few times already that if it’s a teatime kick-off on the Saturday, you won’t get home via Sheffield or Leeds. Getting down there is fine - in fact, I wouldn’t even call it an inconvenience having to change at Leeds for a train to Kings Cross as it maybe only adds 50 minutes to the journey time compared to Piccadilly to Euston, but unless you leave Wembley while the game is still being played in normal time then there are no trains late enough back to Manchester from either Leeds or Sheffield.

I applaud your optimism but sadly think it is misplaced.
They are probably thinking that if they play it at Villa Park only 45,000 could watch The answer they have come up with is to play 2 City v dips matches. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Who ever has scored the most goals wins. The FA get double tv revenue to boot.

Give them a chance there are two games they have to schedule on two days. That's a lot of planning, it's not something that can be done in a day. I still reckon that they want the London teams playing on a Saturday and our game on a Sunday but because the wall pushers play Tuesday and Everton at home on the Wednesday it's too difficult to sort as Everton play Leicester who are already playing on the Sunday so they won't agree to move game so the FA have screwed up by allowing Sky etc to pre determine dates
