FA Watch

I had a quick look at the FSF "goat boy" it is another interesting option, sounds easy enough to join and they take on all kinds of campaigns.

Is patrick from the FA? I couldn't work the post out.

Gents.

If I told you there's a fairly quick way of getting a substantial football industry political weight behind this thing, would you believe me?

This is how to do it.

Read this page-

http://www.fsf.org.uk/campaigns/

I started a thread last week, saying how they'd emailed me to tell me that joining as a full member had now become free. It's probably sat on about page 28 of BM by now, alone, unloved, and unreplied :(

But anyway. I joined up. For information, this is what the FSF say about themselves:

About Us

The Football Supporters’ Federation (FSF) is the national supporters’ organisation for all football fans comprising over 142,000 individual fans and members of local supporters’ organisations from every club in the professional structure and many from the pyramid.

Joining the FSF is your opportunity to make a difference. The Federation has regular meetings with the football authorities and the Department of Culture Media and Sport, discussing a wide range of issues, many of them placed on the agenda by the FSF to take forward our policies or in response to concerns raised by supporters.

We have more detailed meetings on specific topics with the relevant authorities or other bodies such as the Independent Football Commission and the Police Match Commanders. We also meet Government and the all-party football group of MPs when necessary.

The Federation regularly takes up specific complaints and cases which are raised with it by individual members or affiliated organisations and we encourage the participation of all supporters in this process.

This is right up there street. There are organisational members (ie non City fans) registered on this forum. If anyone can find them (they'll be in the list somewhere) a quick PM will send them a notification email and with a bit of luck they'll be reading this thread before you can say 'corruption in professional football is flipping rubbish'. If you're reading, chaps, please can you suggest how we proceed? If you've read the thread, perhaps you can see that what we have here is not a whinge about Adebayors fair enough punishment, but is a genuine complaint against the apparent willingness of the FA (and even UEFA) to massage discplinary procedures and punishments, relating to contraventions of the rules and laws of the game, on an ad hoc basis. It's not bloody fair.

I advise BMers, and any other visiting/ lurking football fans of any creed, to sign up. It costs you nothing. You don't need to send them anything other than your email address, but I understand they send you a free mag every now and then if you give them your address. If we start pursuing this at local meets, we'll be able to help get the FSF en masse to put this issue on their agenda. The FSF, as they say, represent the length and breadth of the football community, and no one will mistake them for a bunch of partisan City fans.

Any thoughts?

Thanks for this goat boy. I've joined up as a result.

I am now able to contact Steve Powell, the FSF's director of policy and campaigns in the same way as I did with the journalists. I can simply ask him point him towards this thread and he can make contact with us if he so wishes.

Does anyone have a problem with such an approach - I'll wait until say tomorrow lunchtime before I proceed, in view of the discussions we have had about how we take the whole thing forward, thus giving people the chance to put the arguments against it.

What a democracy!

I read it that Patrick had written to the FA and that was their response to him.

Steve's a big Arsenal fan so be careful how you proceed!

Listen, if this guy Powell has any claims to being an independent minded , true football supporter even he will recognise the need 1) to remove all paid club execs from the commitee and 2) to set up an independent panel to review ALL P.L. games as in Rugby Union where players are cited for any indiscretion captured on video which receive complaints

Thanks for the warning - if I proceed!

Mind you I would imagine the FA would make the claim that they're independent minded as well. Ha!

Logging off now - back in the morning.

with reference to people in the media to get involved I've been looking for a contact for Tim Samuels.

He is an investigative journalist and has just done the documentary on BBC2 about big businesses involvement with porn.

Anyway he is a City fan but I can't seem to find a contact for him. He seems to flit from paper to paper. He could be quite a handy ally if we can get hold of him!!

Great thread Mr.Burns

Sorry if my post earlier sounded like a big plug for the FSF, it's just the idea of unionising appeals to my sense of social equality, and this is an archetype example of where unionising can help make a small noise far bigger. I do think the presentation of the idea to football fans in general will carry more weight, and get more support, if it's issued by an independent party as opposed to people off a City message board. We've already had the examples of Skrtel on Jo and Bosingwa on Benayoun as examples within this thread, so we can demonstrate the validity of our point to other sets of fans.
