Marvellous stuff Monty - I admire what you are doing here.
I have to say, I genuinely believe there is an opportunity to make a difference here. But ONLY if we get the media involved. Individual letters - even as well crafted as yours - will be ignored. Some admin person will send you standard response letter type A, B or C each time and your letters won't ever pass the desk of anyone who could make a difference.
BUT - and it's a big BUT... if someone of the papers pick up on this campaign, it could really change things. The FA could not ignore it if the media start highlighting to the public what a total bunch of jerks they are.
We should remember there are 16+ clubs who's supporters are completely fucked off about this and only 4 who are happy to sit back and let it continue happen. The media might realise that it's an interesting campaign that's good for selling newspapers.
Have you contacted any of the press specifically?
What about getting other clubs forums mobilized? I am sure Spursmad (the forum) or Toffee Talk for example would have some members interested in contributing?
Does anyone have any web skills who could help by setting up a website?
Or what about an online petition calling for FA reform so that the rules can be equally and fairly applied to all clubs.
I have just had another thought - I will write to my MP about this. MP's are desperate to keep their seats at the next election and championing a populist cause like this could be very attractive. We only need 1 MP to pick this up and things could really start to change.
We cannot allow this corruption at the highest level of football to just continue forever.
Right Chippy, sorry it's taken a while to get back to you on this.
Letters have now been sent to various media outlets and we'll wait and see if anything comes of it, although past experience tells us they're generally not interested - otherwise they'd have done something themselves a long time ago.
I explained on the other thread yesterday I was reluctant to get supporters of other clubs involved, partly because of the time this would take but also based on my past experiences in trying to do something similar with Berbatov. Most sites I know require you to register before you post and what a job that would be! I did go down this line last year (spursmad comes to mind, amongst others) but in truth I didn't find the feedback warranted the time spent in doing it, although that's just a personal view.
The Rivals network was with us last year and I sent an e-mail round the other 90 clubs, excluding United. Maybe half a dozen replied to the thread on their own site and of these, perhaps a couple were OK and the rest abusive.
But if anyone who is already a member of other clubs sites wants to contact them and link them to this thread then great, the newbies would be simply viewing at this stage and if anyone wants to go further in terms of registering and contributing then that's up to them. But I'm afraid time doesn't permit me to do this myself.
As regards a seperate website again this is beyond my capability, as is petitions, but again, if that's the way to go and others will do it then it has my full support.
As for MP's then maybe it's worth a try given the forthcoming election as you say, but I'm persona non grata as far as James Purnell is concerned so I'm afraid I won't be writing to him!
Thanks for all the ideas and support anyway, and that goes for anyone else who I haven't thanked personally.
