If we genuinely weren't interested in Delph, does anyone think it's right that we placed a formal bid for the player just to play games with another team.

We're going to piss off more than opposition clubs if we do that.
No, it's not right. And didn't we do something similar with Palacios, in order to get Bellamy? I must be honest, i'm concerned with the amount of teams that are unhappy with how our negotiators conduct themselves. We've pissed off Chelsea, Everton and Leeds in the space of a couple of weeks. If we continue in this fashion, clubs may simply not deal with us.

Wasn't it Hughes who pissed off Everton and Chelsea though, with his comments?

Clubs can't afford not to deal with us.

Clubs sit there plraying we are interested in some of their players, and this will continue until someone else gets taken over

Yeah, maybe i was too specific in saying the "negotiators", but either way, it's still Manchester City FC pissing off all these clubs, and it still concerns me. Remember these quote from Steve Bruce (link below)? It's not the first time we've bid for someone seemingly with no intention of buying them. The way we are conducting ourselves regarding transfers is annoying clubs with an alarming regularity. And it's only going to negatively impact on us with regards to trying to tie up future deals.

It's all posturing. At the end of the day the cash is what matters, and no one else can just slap millions of pounds on the table up front. Bates' revelation that we'd said we want to hold on for a week suggests to me that we were playing with Everton, trying to hold that over their heads.

As for other clubs being annoyed with us I don't care. They aren't going to do us any favours. It's a competetive market and if you want success, you have to demonstrate strength.

Sorry, but don't think you're a right about the Palaious deal. Even Dave (i love the rags) Whelan came out and said we did nothing wrong over Palacios. Must admit I loved Hughes' response to Bruce, 'I think Steve's confused everybody including himself' or something like that. Quality put down.

Do you not think it shows a complete lack of respect for Fabian Delph though? If Leeds had agreed to give us a week, only for us to cancel the deal, it could have prevented Delph from getting his dream move to the Premier League this summer. Who's to say that Villa wouldn't have gone and signed someone else thinking Delph was on his way to us, thus ending their interest in the kid? I can't stand Bates, but i applaud him for doing what he did. He had Delph's best interests at heart and fair play to him. I think what we did was disrespectful to be honest.

I think thats right. According to Whelan, all Cook did was made a query about Palacios. No bid, no commitment. Just asked the question.

And Elephant Man was the one the put it out into the public domain with his post match comments saying that a side "not too far from here, but not Manchester United" were interested.

Its a bit wierd that we asked for a week after having a bid accepted, really wierd.

Im happy hes going to villa anyway my mate whos a big big leeds fan laughed at the chance of getting 10m for this kid.

Altho i do hope we dont make the same mistake with elm bcoz hes actually quality.

Jeez - what is wrong with some of you guys - FFS CITY cannot win if this is what their supposed fans get up to - it is bad enough the press being so pro-Sky 4 that they print bollocks and some managers such as Bruce, Moyes and O'Neill jockeying for fergisescim's job that they say anything to find favour without our own fans dreaming up total negative bollocks

1. the Palcios issue was all bollocks - as proven by the Wigan owner

2. Re Delph - Hughes said "..we have an interest..."

That likely means an enquiry to the club - it does not mean a formal offer - that depends on price and many things - why do people dream up other stuff / conspiracies - let the negative media do their own work and there are enough fergiescum acolytes saying whatever bollocks he likes without our own fans joining his club

Even if we made a bid - it is just a process - make a bid it is either rejected or accepted

And who in their right mind would accept whatever Bates has to say - bent as they come - and probably just pissed off that our interest did not become an auction to his advantage

We have handled our business superbly (IMO) and it is right for all other clubs to recognise the new power – but they all get anti-CITY for self-interest reasons – why are you helping

If that's true then our negotiating team needs sacking.

Fuckin disgraceful, why put a bid in then ask for a week to think about it when it gets accepted

Ken Bates the bastion of all things truthful.

If you want to believe it then its up to you

Agree 100%...Ken Bates is bitter and twisted old chairman and always has an alterier motive, wouldnt trust him as far as I could throw the fat santa...
Maybe as Delph wasnt on the "list" we may have had to check back but Bates is a sad old fella, good luck to Delph, he looks a good prospect maybe we could get him next year
