See, I don't agree with this.
£8m on a squad player who won't make the grade (hypothetical at present of course), a player who doesn't particularly strengthen the squad, letalone the first XI - surely makes less sense than spending more on a worthwhile player who ticks the same quota boxes, but actually has the quality to strengthen both the squad and arguably the first XI, and has a higher potential ceiling of development.
It's a no brainer for me, £30m or even £40m well spent makes much more sense than throwing £8m down the drain.
I also don't like the message it sends to the academy lads. If we're willing to spend millions bringing in, let's be honest here, bang average players just because they meet a quota and have a few PL appearances under their belt, then what message does that send to the academy lads who have real potential, meet those quota requirements, but simply can't get the opportunities to get appearances under their belt - precisely because of pointless moves like this one?
Really don't get it, frankly.
