Fabian Delph

Telegraph now reporting the release clause is £8m (after saying rumours of it being just £10m were wide of the mark yesterday).

For £8m you can't really argue if Pellegrini thinks he can do a job.

Could work out to be a Gareth Barry Mark 2.
I would be very happy with that, good value at 8/10m. .

I've always been impressed when watching Delph, think he would do a great job if he were to sign. For 8/10m too for HG it's not really a situation to lose out on. He does well and we can sell him for profit, he does really well and we have a very talented englishman in the team.
He doesn't do well and we should be able to recoup what we've paid out.
All in all, I hope he would thrive playing with the likes of silva / yaya / Kompany etc.

Exactly and if Dyke gets the HG quota increased the Premier top clubs will be filled with them sitting on the bench.
Some of them wont even get as far as the bench, how that's supposed to aid England I have no idea.

The previous idea put forward of a straight swap between Fernando and Delph is tempting though, and Delph will get enough games with us to keep his England place I'd have thought.

Long term replacement for Fernandinho? They are both athletic and energetic. I'd love Delph as a supplementary signing.

Isn't nor ever will be nearly as good. Replacement for Fernando maybe, but even he has played at CL level for many seasons.

Delph plays for Villa at 25, a team that escaped relegation by 3 points. As with any transfer for a clearly sub par player, the more it looks like it's actually happening the more desperate posts start to look, and the more that player can 'do a job'. This eventually turns into them becoming 'potentially world class', usually right after signing, descending into 'Shit, sell him to Sunderland', as soon as he's actually played a game. It's like the scouse boom bust cycle but with players instead of the league.

It's an 8 million quid punt in the event everyone else is injured. Lets not kid ourselves that it's anything but.

He's not as bad as many make out. I remember just before his transfer to Aston Villa, we were very much in the mix. Unfortunately at the time he opted to go to Villa. Did he do right for his career? Looking back, probably, yes. He would certainly have gotten games for us back then however he wouldn't have developed into the footballer he is now (Villa offered him extended game time, I believe here he would have been on-and-off).

He's homegrown and for an England international he's extremely cheap. I disagree with those saying he's as good as Fernandinho (someone I rate extremely highly, ultimately one of my first names on the teamsheet), however, I do believe he can offer something to the squad.

If we were talking £20,000,000+ then I wouldn't be too keen, but for £8,000,000 - 10,000,000, go for it.
