Fabian Delph

He's won me over actually, I think he could make an excellent SQUAD player. Towards the back end of last season he was playing out of his skin, his recent performance against Slovenia (I know Slovenia but still,...) was impressive to say the least, he absolutely bossed the midfield with wilshere. Talk of the devil, I think he was our plan B to Wilshere with Arsenal pretty much giving us the finger. If we were paying £20+ million for Delph, I'd start asking questions. But £8 million? that is a snip in today's market, that's usually the homegrown premium that goes on top of the asking price. Tbh I don't think it's the best move for him personally, heard quotes saying "champions league football will help him concrete a place in the England starting 11 for the Euros", but let's be realistic......this lads gonna be a squad player, nothing more. I think if we sign Delph and Fabinho, we need to shift at least one CM and all the fingers are pointing towards Fernando.

Good squad asset, and HG (FFS), but let's face it - he's no Yaya replacement or pogba substitute. If he does come I hope he's another Milner, and not another Sinclair.
We know which one its going to be if we're honest ! Hope i/we are wrong tho.

He's a very limited player really, and stands out in a crap Villa side. Bench warmer if he joins us.

I agree....I see him as squad player and wont start every week...BUT if you watch his game, he has better movement, quickness than Fernando and would offer more going forward...doesn't improve our starting 11 but if the reported 8mil release clause is true, he's a cheap, HG upgrade over Fernando and a HG player to replace Milner....this isn't a "superstar" signing we need but we have to remember, this wouldn't be instead of a Pogba...this is as well as....I'm not excited about the signing but it makes sense for the squad as a whole....

Did he not turn us down at one point and opted to join villa over us? I'm sure we were both in for him when he was leaving Leeds.

I'm pretty sure Hughes was the manager and he was publically trying to sign almost everyone. Delphi as a young kid was right to go to Villa.

Personally I like the kid, getting better every year.moffers us a little aggression and pace centrally that other than Fernandinho we haven't got. I think he could flourish at City.

I'll get pelters for this, but I think he'll be more effective and better for our squad than Milner.m

Yes, but I'm pretty sure Pearce was the manager at the time.

Not sure if he'll be more effective for our squad than Milner, but you'd be hard pushed to find a better home grown alternative for that price.

At £8m it's a no brainer for me. Someone like Wilshere or Barkley would cost 4 or 5 times as much. He won't be a regular starter, but he's an upgrade on Fernando, relatively cheap and homegrown.

Surprised some people are so fundamentally opposed to us signing him.

I'd fuck Fernando off for this guy. If we get £10m for Nando we make a profit!

Plus because of his daft low release clause we could just buy Delph and sell him at a profit straight away.

If you think about it, if it doesn't work out after a season we could sell him back to villa for £16m lol

That's a great point.. you could sell him for £15-18 if he didn't have his release clause! Quick turnover?

Used to date a girl I know, apparently BIG money isn't the only thing Delph keeps in his trousers.
