I think he could surprise a few on here. Gareth Barry was a regular starter, as was James Milner in the last season. Both were fan favourites, underestimated by opposition supporters. There is a place for him in the team, maybe rotating with Fernando. Villa's midfield dominated ours for a good while during the last game at the Etihad, they had more possession than we did. I don't follow Aston Villa much, but he has impressed when I have watched England.

he is nowhere near as good as either of those two players, Barry in particular. he's worth 8m though all day long. he's ten times the player rodwell is so worth a punt.

For games after/before a big European game where Yaya may need a rest, I think Delph is not a bad option to come into the team. He gets the ball forward quickly and can actually travel with it. Too often with Fernando in midfield, it's been slow and ponderous without any attacking threat whatsoever. Delph is busy and can use the ball effectively, so I'm all for his signing when it comes to rotation.

He's a far better option in the centre of midfield than Milner, who was poor every time he played there for us.

Delph could turn out to be a great signing. Great stamina and far better going forward than people realise, just that he hasn't had much chance to show it at Villa. He will raise his game when he joins us.

It's a totally different proposition than Rodwell/Sinclair were as he's an established international. I could see him jumping ahead of Fernando as a midfield option and starting quite a few games in the PL.

This is an absolute steal at the money being quoted.

unless a carling cup game he'll get nowhere near our centre mid.
