Fans going to Wembley for the Community Shield

Two tracks are closed from Euston to Hanslope Junction (north of Milton Keynes) from 20:00 Saturday to 12:00 Sunday each week. The lines being worked on (slow or fast) vary each week, so all trains are timetabled to travel over the slow lines to cover the worst case scenario.

Ok thanks. Makes sense I suppose.

I have noticed you often go past Villa’s ground ( Witton ) on a Sunday aswell, which I don’t think is the normal Monday- Saturday route. So presumably that adds a bit of time on aswell.

Yeah, there's a bit of work occurring on the Trent Valley route leading to some weekday and weekend closures. Some of it is resignalling work at Nuneaton, but I think they have to rebuild the bridge at Lichfield carrying the CrossCity trains over the mainline, and at some point connect HS2 up with the existing network just north of Lichfield, although this keeps getting postponed.

Can I ask where you park in Richmond? We are staying in the travelodge next to the multi storey car park which I think is about £20.
On a Sunday the Railway car park next to the station (other side of the station from the NCP) is only £5 or £6 all day
The entry is opposite the Orange Tree Hotel. Have a look on Google maps, it's not big though

Stopped going to Charity shield and semi finals a few years back now. Neither should be held at Wembley in my opinion. Utter greed! But that's my choice, I wouldn't force my views on anybody else.

I’ve no particular love for The FA. And they made no secret that having all FA Cup Semi Finals at the new Wembley was to help claw back the extortionate cost of building it.

But it’s also worth noting that one of the main reasons that decision didn’t really seem to attract much criticism at the time, was that previous old Wembley Semi’s happened because of fan pressure to have them there.

Yes, that maybe the case, but I'll bet a lot of the pressure was from London clubs. It's weird because in 2011,our first semi since 81, it was novel and we were all desperate to go, especially with it being against them bastards. But the novelty soon wears off when you're there virtually every season. Maybe it's just a City thing because of this reason. But even if you take the distance, the money and the nightmare journies, the main thing for me(semi finals) is that it waters the fuck out of the competition and semis should revert back the provincials.

Cheers, I know the one you mean on Church R.d.Never used that so good to know.

International matches should be played around the country to give provincial fans the chance to se the national team at an affordable cost without having to treck to London.

The same should apply to semi finals and CS.

Ordinary fans are being penalised for the ineptitude, vanity and greed of an archaic, defunct Committee of out of touch tossers and free loaders who are just about to sell the FA Cup and their soul to that other bunch of charlatans the PL .

Shameful & Shameless.

On the first point, I think the Sheffield derby may have been one of, if not, the first semi there. I think that was as a direct result of fan pressure from the two teams.

I think City are probably in a unique position. Out of the teams who get to semis on a regular basis, there’s only London clubs plus Liverpool and United, apart from us. You might get some local scousers and United season ticket holders who’d prefer a nearer venue. But I’d bet as a fan base on the whole, they’d prefer Wembley. The London clubs obviously will.

And I reckon pretty much every other club would prefer it there. As it’s only likely to happen once every generation at best and they know they’re almost certainly going to be big underdogs and probably not make the final anyway.

We will do what we always do. Drive and park very (very) near the Green Man - been parking on same person's drive regularly; think I'm his best client (we've parked there twice since the FA Cup final for concerts). I can get home from Wembley in less than an hour on a good run.
Do you live in Manchester, if so what do you drive?
