Favourite cars that were achievable by people who weren't rich

Yeah but girls liked em. A lot.

Me at Bredbury Hall early 70s after quite along chat with nice looking girl "can I give you a lift home"
Girl "oh ok"
Leaves club and walks to shiny immaculate 3 Litre Capri.
Girl "Oh nice car.....fancy a shag ? "
How shallow can you get.

And she's no better.

Have you seen the price of most of these cars on this thread. Mental but great to see at those prices, they'll be looked after.
MG midgets are still cheap, easy to tinker with and the bits are plentiful.
But most things that fall into the classic car category are expensive. Early Ford XR3s in good condition are fetching 15k+.
However they do make some sense as a run about if they are more than 40yrs old. Classic insurance is cheap, no road tax and they are exempt from any emissions charges. 80s cars weren’t that bad from a reliability point of view as long as it was something reasonably mainstream and didn’t have any clever engine technology (electronic fuel injection) was still fairly new and was still having teething problems.

Audi s3 .
Absolutely love it
That was a fairly expensive car back in the day. Launch price was just under 25k in the late 90s. A Ford Escort would have cost you about 11k so roughly 2.5 times more expensive than a normal car. It would be like paying 45k today (if you just account for inflation), which strangely enough is around the same list price of a brand new S3.

I paid 12k for a 2010 low milage model.
Which is quite a lot of money.
But fucking hell it's fun

I always wanted a Datsun 240z & managed to buy a 260z 2 seater in around 1988,
Beautiful looking car with wolfrace alloys, straight 6 engine all for £1200 & thought I was the dogs dangly bits until it rusted away over about 3 years,
Took it for a mot & it failed, the bloke said it would cost around £400 to weld it up & at the time I could not afford it so sold the car for around £600,
God knows what it would be worth now just for spares?
